Jess has had a variety of roles in the scholarly publishing industry for the last few decades. Currently she is Director, Publishing Sales at Optica and previously was a Regional Sales Manager at IOP Publishing. Before embarking on the sales side of publishing, she was the Publications Portfolio Manager at IEEE Photonics Society and spent ten years commissioning books at IOP Publishing and World Scientific Publishing. Jess also worked at Springer Nature in various editorial roles. She enjoys spending time outside with her dog and son, Jack

She has over 18 years’ experience, and has spent time working in-house, as corporate counsel for a global pharmaceutical company (AstraZeneca). Rachel advises on a broad range of non-contentious IP matters and works closely with a number of publishing organisations. Her publishing clients range from small society publishers and magazine publishers, to charities and academic institutions. Rachel is a regular speaker at conferences on IP, commercial and data issues, and is listed as a Leading Individual in the Legal 500 directory for Intellectual Property in East Anglia.

Simon is currently Chief Commercial Officer at Cabells. His previous roles have included Head of Content, Brand and Press at Digital Science and Executive Publisher at Emerald, where he had direct experience in journal acquisitions, open access and business development. Simon has also been a Co-opted Trustee of COPE, has published in academic journals on the topics of bibliometrics and knowledge transfer and is the author of ‘The Predator Effect’.
