Can’t say more strongly: they are claiming the power to disappear people with no recourse, to entirely remove anyone they want to, forever, with no ability to stop them.

β€œUnamerican” doesn’t do it justice. Diametrically opposed to anything even remotely resembling a society we should support.

Based on the lack of respect that China has shown to the World's Markets, I am hereby raising the Tariff charged to China by the United States of America to 125%, effective immediately. At some point, hopefully in the near future, China will realize that the days of ripping off the U.S.A., and other Countries, is no longer sustainable or acceptable. Conversely, and based on the fact that more than 75 Countries have called Representatives of the United States, including the Departments of Commerce, Treasury, and the USTR, to negotiate a solution to the subjects being discussed relative to Trade, Trade Barriers, Tariffs, Currency Manipulation, and Non Monetary Tariffs, and that these Countries have not, at my strong suggestion, retaliated in any way, shape, or form against the United States, I have authorized a 90 day PAUSE, and a substantially lowered Reciprocal Tariff during this period, of 10%, also effective immediately. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

This is still like $3000 for the average household, so not really much of a pause in the aggregate

...An extraordinary heritage that was extraordinary when the country was founded and in no way has ever changed...if anything it's extraordinary-ness is more extraordinary today than it is was then. (We don't want you to talk about slavery)

Where are the articles of impeachment? If Biden had implemented this same tariff policy with this same effect, GOP would be foaming at the mouth.

When Progressive Churches Fail: Lessons from Circle of Hope My thoughts on perfectionism and leadership conflict and the disbanding of Circle of Hope, a progressive Anabaptist community, as documented by Eliza Griswold

This was a really interesting and compelling read. While the perspective is from a progressive evangelical community, I think a lot of their challenges around antiracism will be familiar to mainline congregations.

An Interview with Bishop Songulashvili Bishop Malkhaz Songulashvili speaks with me about the political Climate in the Republic of Georgia and the religious imperative to resist injustice.

I wrote a history of the Alliance of Baptists ten years ago. In 1992, the Alliance decided to examine questions of sexuality even if it tanked them. Today, as the government bans Trans people from the military the Alliance co-director encourages the denomination "to move slower so we can go farther"

Grateful CBF has the leadership capacity to direct their small denomination to oppose this administration. Such actions are difficult when you are small, which means leadership matters all the more.

Budgets are statements of values. And what we're seeing is that House Republicans value ripping food and health care away from millions of Americans in order to partly pay for tax cuts for the rich.

Church Oligarchy!! How does our current oligarchic politic climate resemble the climate of church politics?

I've always thought this was a really important part of the Social Gospel that doesn't get talked about.

I like a big, fun musical but there are far too many that push out shows like this that take risks and try to do something new that aren't seeking the biggest crowds and the biggest profits.

I cried the last thirty minutes of the show and was a little embarrassed until I saw countless individuals with puffy red faces leaving the theatre. It's a story about finding meaning in the wake of grief and loss and Menzel just kills it.

I just saw the new musical with Redwood with Idina Menzel and am so grateful this made it to Broadway. It is small, genuine, and emotionally packed. I doubt it will last long on Broadway because it's not a show you see to escape the world.
