From MRI to Ozempic: breakthroughs that show why fundamental research must be protected In these financially straitened times, funders must recognize that great discoveries often arise from work that was looking for something completely different.

Fund fundamental research for the best possible future. πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡

Just an observer from down under. Food stamps are corrupt in they allow big businesses to not pay a fair living wage with the government making up the rest. It’s a corporate welfare system.

Ken Henry warns β€˜conga line of developers’ would try to exploit exemptions in Labor’s proposed nature laws Exclusive: β€˜Every project developer is absolutely convinced that their project is in the national interest,’ Australian Climate and Biodiversity Foundation head says

Labor’s proposed environmental reforms are a recipe for corruption and political manipulation. Inviting special treats for ministerial intervention.

I think they’ve all always known more. But they truly believe the rules don’t apply to them. They never act on morality or ethics. This is all about saving face. And yes, any of us who have worked in the public service know there is no such thing as β€œit can’t be done”

Yes please. An early election would be interesting at the moment: the bleedingly obvious lack of morality and integrity of the LNP; the increasing disappointment with Labor, esp β€œstate capture” type issues … I can but dream

Showing they have absolutely no understanding at all of what late term abortions are, why they are generally performed, and how incredibly devastating any child loss is

How ignorant and horrible do you have to be to weigh in on an issue with so little understanding and compassion

It’s a disaster waiting to happen, for which the ATCs will be blamed (charged, deported, jailed, who-knows-what). Do they not understand the power of collective action? And that with this regime nothing is achieved by continuing to turn up to work?

The most insanely frustrating thing about the #ClimateCrisis is how the breakthrough we so clearly need isn’t technological. It’s just a collective willingness, a determination even, to change in ways that would clearly be SO MUCH BETTER than the clear and obvious consequences of NOT changing.

Price of poverty hurts us all, yet research reveals an easy fix In 2020, Australia massively increased welfare payments and conducted a live experiment in ending poverty, but when the subsidy was removed, many were thrown back into hardship. Leaving aside the mora...

Of course it’s the human thing to do but it’s also economically and societally smart to eliminate poverty. The pandemic showed us that it can be done, and that we all win from that investment.

Grog's rule of privatisation:

"The day you decide to allow the private sector deliver a public service is also the day you should set the future date for the Royal Commission into abuses in the system."

Important cultural artefacts from the
United States should be transferred to the British Museum or the Louvre because the United States is too unstable and corrupt to ensure their safekeeping

Change my mind

NO essential services should be privatised.
It has been proven that privatisation, deregulation, and outsourcing of public services fails to provide economic or social returns to Australians.
It just enriches a few, and entrenches millions.
We need Change.

I think there’s a huge difference between interviewing a pollie and accepting a piece written by them. Your values/ethics lie in incisive questions and searching for truth- with all its layers. Apply them to everyone regardless of their profession, status and influence
