I have devoted much of my weather & climate career to engaging with journalists--including 200-300 news media interviews per year, many of which involve recurring conversations to facilitate timely & contextually accurate coverage. This recent collapse has been stunning and deeply disconcerting.

Data Centers Are Driving a US Gas Boom Gas projects in the US pipeline explicitly linked to data centers increased by almost 25 times over the past two years, according to new research from Global Energy Monitor.

i was actually shocked to see the numbers on new research from Global Energy Monitor on new gas projects in the US: nearly 100 gigawatts of power—enough to power tens of millions of homes—are currently in development explicitly to power data centers. At the end of 2023 that number was 4 gigawatts

‘We’re not safe right now’: A nurse’s dramatic ICE arrest ignites fear in Maine’s immigrant communities - The Boston Globe When ICE arrested of Fátima Lucas Henrique, the video of her screaming as agents pulled her from her vehicle resonated across the state.

The video of Fátima's arrest haunted me when I saw it last Friday because her screams captured the fears of the people I'd speaking to all week. No criminal record. Pursuing the legal process for asylum from Angola. A CNA heading off to work. And now — detained.

Melissa becomes third Category 5 hurricane of the extraordinary 2025 season Updates and summaries on tropical Atlantic activity... including easterly waves, tropical storms, subtropical storms, and hurricanes.

For only the second time in recorded history, an Atlantic season has produced three Category 5 hurricanes... the previous year was 2005. This puts 2025 in an elite class of hurricane seasons. It also means that nearly 7% of all known Category 5 hurricanes have occurred just in this year.
