NEW ANALYSIS: China's CO2 has now been 'flat or falling' for 21 months

* Down in 2025
* Still below Mar 2024
* Clean energy wave a key factor

If this is China's peak (TBC) it's the climate story of the century so far…

Flawed economic models mean climate crisis could crash global economy, experts warn States and financial bodies using modelling that ignores shocks from extreme weather and climate tipping points

"The #climate scientists we surveyed were unambiguous: current economic models can’t capture what matters most – the cascading failures & compounding shocks that define climate risk in a warmer world – & could undermine the foundations of economic growth” - Dr Jesse Abrams, @gsiexeter.bsky.social

Check out Royal Dutch Shell being royaly: 'in 2018 and 2019, Shell booked 7% of its total income in Bermuda and the Bahamas. In so doing, it avoided approximately $700 million in taxes that Shell would have had to pay if it had reported that income in its home country of the Netherlands'

Nice and punchy! (But I am nerd enough to look forward very much to reading the book-length version). The asset-focus also underscores the importance to tip the scales among corporations, such as through climate litigation against financials

β€œCarbon credits have become a comforting myth, not a catalyst for genuine corporate climate ambition. The unhelpful narrative that buying credits accelerates real decarbonisation runs counter to the evidence and distracts us from meaningful action,” author Benja Faecks explained

Credit where it is not due: No proven connection between the use of carbon credits and climate ambition - Carbon Market Watch A review of existing studies finds that there is insufficient evidence to support the hypothesis that corporate investments in the voluntary carbon market increase a company’s climate ambition.

I can't say I'm surprised... 'excessive purchase of carbon credits can actually hamper in-house emission reductions. It also finds that there is no link between carbon credit use and climate ambition' carbonmarketwatch.org/2025/11/25/c...

My key issue with this upbeat take is that we don't just need growth in financing of green solutions but also active reduction of harmful fossil financing. The article doesn't provide evidence that is happening. Adding non-emitting investments to current dangerously high emissions doesn't cut it
