The JMLR story and operating model should be widely known in academia as a clear success story for full open access. I have friends in the humanities and pure sciences that have no clue this is even possible

While his most-cited work is on leaf size and SLA, he also wrote explicitly about plasticity in leaf traits, including shape, in the context of ecological strategies.

Example: Ackerly (1997), β€œAllocation, leaf display, and growth in fluctuating light environments: A comparative study of deciduous and evergreen species” (Oecologia). This emphasizes how plasticity in leaf traits mediates adaptation to light.

Just in case there was any doubt, ChatGPT 5.0 still makes up completely random citations that don't exist and should not be used for literature search.

Editorial: Censoring the scientific enterprise, one grant at a time Recent grant terminations are a symptom of a widespread attack on science.

More on the NSF censorship of misinformation research, broader cuts (esp social science & education), & now overhead reductions. This is a full attack on science. In addition to #saveNSF, we need to actively inform the public about the value of taxpayer investments in STEM across all fed agencies 🧡

This statement from the NSF is insane.

Science is, in essence, designed to separate the true from the false.

Understanding how falsehoods spread is key to the scientific endeavor. It is not a violation of free speech to be proven wrong.

Can confirm that my NSF grant "How False Beliefs Form & How to Correct Them" was cancelled today because it is "not in alignment with current NSF priorities" Shocking that understanding how people are misled by false information is now a forbidden topic. Our work will continue but at a smaller scale
