The purpose of a system is what it does. Yes other types of businesses exist (b corps, co-ops, etc.) but that doesn't mean it's how the system as a whole operates. What % of the total number of businesses are of those types? Just because they're defined doesn't mean they shape the material reality.

Absolutely not. Public companies aren't legally required to maximize profits, but institutional investors (hedge funds etc.) hold significant stakes and demand returns. Their voting power and profit-driven goals compel corporations to prioritize profits, making it a practical reality, not a myth.

No there is. The major shareholders of all the corporations are no more than a few thousand people, if not less, in the whole world. They conceal their identity using institutional ownership but they are still people owning that vast wealth nevertheless. The capitalist ruling class is real.

Gentle reminder: CEOs answer to their bosses (the board of directors) who in turn answer to their bosses (major shareholders) many of whom remain anonymous. While there's significant overlap among these groups, contrary to popular belief, CEOs aren't the ultimate boss lol
