Why don't we know how many Home Forces were killed?
YouTube video by Remember the Regulars Why don't we know how many Home Forces were killed?

Thought I'd spend the morning taking a quick look at why we don't know how many members of the Home Forces were killed on active service in the UK during the Second World War.

Thanks 😊 I think one of the biggest issues is how something massively complex has been simplified to the point it no longer reflects what was going on. Seeing the Home Guard in their more realistic context is vitally important, especially when the Regs/TA don't get a look in.

Trying something new on the YouTube Channel. I had the pleasure of being joined by the wonderful Taff Gillingham of @greatwarhuts.bsky.social

Taff joined me to discuss the up and coming myth 'The Home Guard were full of First World War Veterans'.

I decided to revisit the Blacker Bombard this morning as I've found some very interesting information, Oh yeah, it still isn't an exclusive Home Guard weapon 🤣

I've been lousy with cold all week but wanted to get on with starting the next series on the YouTube Channel.

Let's start by setting the scene for the later episodes in the Defending The Home Front series-

Home Forces Mythbusting: Sacrificing the Home Guard
YouTube video by Remember the Regulars Home Forces Mythbusting: Sacrificing the Home Guard

After seeing a post that mentioned that the Home Guard were to take on the invading force to give the army the time to deploy, I thought I would make a video looking at how that is not true.

Let's take a look-

#OtD 15 Jan 1934 the UK tabloid the Daily Mail published an article 'Hurrah for the Blackshirts!' supporting Oswald Mosley's fascist movement. Written by Viscount Rothemere, whose family still own the Mail, its politics haven't really changed much stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/8672...

Seeing as I'm blathering about Spitfires, here's a free mythbuster for Bluesky

The little letter after the Spitfire mark designation - e.g. Spitfire Vb, Spitfire XVIe - what does it mean?

There is a widespread misconception that it relates to armament configuration, and *only* armament config...

And then turns attention to annexing the UK as a preliminary to invading Europe with Russia. At this point I could see the government just rolling over if said hypothetical happened.

We've had increased US air activity across East Anglia as well, which does remind me of what they did in Panama.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. The US is doing what it used to do behind the scenes openly now. The thin mask has finally dropped.

I really do worry this would be on the cards here. Especially given we have US Air Force airbases not too far from London.

YouTube video by Remember the Regulars Restricting The Roads in 1940 and 1941: Minimising disruption of military traffic. Question response

I was posed an excellent question on my YouTube channel about how civilian traffic was to be restricted in the event of invasion during the Second World War. Let's a take a quick look and see that it wasn't something taken lightly.
