I personally don't believe it's productive to ignore the essential complexity around a foot of snow completely covering the city. Funny enough, that's not even what the root of this thread was about. But don't you worry, I'll be over here continuing to advance bike infra in the city I love.

Yes, something is better than nothing. And I do what I can to advance bike infrastructure here as I've been a cyclist here since 2007. It's a complex issue and comments like "just plow like Scandanavia" drive me nuts. Not sure where your edge is coming from but cut some slack!

Didn't say it couldn't be figured out. It's just orders of magnitude more difficult of a problem to solve here. And don't get me started about the lack of political will around the issue.

I do understand that. I also understand that New York City is nearly twice as dense as Copenhagen. You can look to them for inspiration, but I don't think you can compare them in any meaningful way. Or reduce the problem to just being about plowing snow.

We're talking about NYC here. You can't compare Scandanavia (an entire region) to the densest urban area of the US.

You don't have to concede. I'm guessing you have to deal with folks like me at least a little. Folks who have a slight chip on their shoulder about being a cyclist in NYC for a long time who have dealt with such conditions without the luxury of space outside their small apartments for their bike.

I hear ya. I'm also a cyclist. Any way I can prevent my bike from weathering outdoors would be taken. Maybe it would be a "game changer" for some folks. Just hard for me to see it being so for the people who might need it most in this type of situation. I don't matter much in your scheme anyway 😅

That's a bit of a stretch. One or two snow events a year will not require a complete overhaul. Bikes and their components are durable and naturally require maintenance as outdoor vehicles. But don't get me wrong, it's a nice idea. There are just far more compelling reasons for this type of storage.

Nice idea. Just how many riders would be out there with the state of the roads, though? Seems like an edge case.

Media companies want there to be two sides. There's enough people on each side that private companies can thrive independently without the other. It is a waste of time to try to capture a wide general audience. Just reinforce the divide as the cost of making content gets cheaper to maximize profit.

First marathon in the books at 3:11:55. At 45 that's a posted time BQ but likely not good enough for next year.
