His family fled the country in 1994 during the Rwandan genocide, and arrived in Scotland. They first settled in Edinburgh and then moved to Dunfermline when Gatwa was 15. He studied acting at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, graduating in 2013. His mainstream breakthrough role came in 2019, when he was cast as Eric Effiong in Netflix’s Sex Education. Playing the British-Ghanaian-Nigerian gay best friend of the protagonist, Otis (Asa Butterfield), the character was praised for the way he transcended stereotypes. In 2022, Gatwa was cast as the 15th Doctor in the BBC’s beloved sci-fi series Doctor Who.

Gale from BG3 drawn on a pastel background. He's artfully undressed in a sheer, lacy robe which is falling off one shoulder. His chest, neck, abdomen and arms are covered in hickeys, teeth marks and vampire bites, lovely reminders of a passionate wedding night with his new husband. He's got a mess of flowers and gems in his hair–all that remains of the headdress he was wearing last night for his wedding ceremony; he's definitely not going to get his deposit back at the rental. He's also wearing a lot if jewellery, including the blood red gem on a silver chain he's holding up. In the other hand, he's holding his Mystra star earring in offering. The artist may or may not be writing a fic featuring this scene. (Both grooms wear dresses to their wedding, by the way. Gale's is white because he thinks it's romantic, and Astarion thinks it complements his complexion. Astarion's is red because of course it is.)

After their passionate wedding night, Gale gave his husband the Mystra earring.
"I won't need her token anymore, not now that I have yours."
(Astarion chucks it into the sea. He's not jealous of a goddess, though.)
