Yes. Light run with the belt sander. Sometimes I just use the orbital.

My Rikon 10-3061 bandsaw produced several thin Black Walnut boards from one thick plank for use in an upcoming project. Resawing efficiently creates more material from a single plank with minimal wood loss. #woodworking #bandsaw

I totally agree with your statement. My customers and followers frequently say to me that they want authentic hand crafted woodworking and art.

Hahahaha - after his grumbling about no Nobel prize as his reason for going after Greenland, this one is appropriate too.

January: -time to gear up in the woodshop. I started with a simple project. I used clear Poplar, cutting an appropriate length of wood with a vintage handsaw.
Then, it was on to the Pegas scrollsaw to cut the interlocking pieces of Mr. Moose.

'Tis the season for seasonal wood art. Created on my Pegas 21 scroll saw and expertly painted by my wife, Christine, a true artist.

A hardwood "coaster" project is underway. Ready to cut to coaster thickness today. Lots of sanding and edge shaping ahead. Then, several coats of the final finish.

My Rikon bandsaw makes a number of tasks in the woodshop simple. The cuts maximize wood usage. Instead of planing a lot off a board and creating chip waste, you can resaw the board to close to your finished dimensions and then hand-plane and sand to a smooth surface.

What in the world is wrong with America? How did you get to this place?
Dystopian Fascism has taken root.
So sad. A once great nation is falling apart.

The workshop is a busy place as we gear up for a late November Open House here at Sandpiper Studios. It is always a time of real satisfaction as things start to take shape.

My contribution to this work of pyrographic art by Christine White was merely to prepare the Cherry backer. Entitled "Spirit of the Wild" it is all based on photos that Chris has taken in Ontario's magnificent Algonquin Park while kayaking and hiking.

This work in pyrography by Chris White draws on the warmth of cherry wood to bring Ontario’s native animals to life. The bear, fox, raccoon, wolf, and songbirds are portrayed with intimate detail, reminding us of the enduring wildness of our forests.

Scot, I just sketched a plan on paper and built it to dimensions that I have for space in my workshop. After building, I tossed the paper plan.

One of the handiest items in my workshop is my rolling "Assembly and Downdraft Table". Dog holes are available for clamping and holding items or assembling frames. Then, there is the very useful downdraft sanding drawer pull-out to reduce dust in the air.

There is a saying: If you want to make $70,000 a year at woodworking, it will cost you $150,000.

To counteract the many years of the downward pull of gravity, I made a little stepstool for the workshop. I'm certain that I used to be taller many moons ago.

Beautiful work. Creative vision that is well executed. How are you making the blank forms that you use for painting? The grasshopper, as an example, gives me the impression that you may have cut the forms on a scroll saw. This is interesting to me. I really admire your work!

My Rikon bandsaw is perfect for resawing. I had a couple of Maple firewood length pieces sitting in my shop and determined that, once sliced, these would be perfect for a project.

Good quality Baltic Birch ply at the 6mm thickness will have five plies alternating in direction at 90Β°. This makes the plywood as stable as possible. However, this thickness of plywood is susceptible to bowing or warping depending on humidity and storage conditions. Thicker ply is more stable.

Oh Canada!
I was happy to be asked to create a set of frames for two new original artworks by Christine White.
The dual-panel paintings are entitled "Northern Escape".
They feature textured relief that adds depth and realism to one of her favourite inspirations: Ontario's northlands
