Norway is an expensive country to live in, but they subsidize sports like crazy. Plus, they encourage kids to have fun and don't really worry about competition until later. And wow - look at their international success. Lessons to be learned here!

Norway makes ski equipment and facilities free for kids and they have become the world's greatest sporting nation. There's a lesson in there somewhere. But we just refuse to make the uber-wealthy fractionally less wealthy in order to fund a healthy society.
