I'd be interested in a group! Putting myself out there on video is super nerve wracking, but I should really be spending more time in the TikTok trenches to build up an audience so my eventual next book can have a better launch.

They do! Hashtags may possibly help the algorithm sort your content into the right boxes at first, but I've heard mixed things about whether or not they're actually helpful. Might be one of those weird situations where the algorithm knows who will engage with our content better than we do.

This one! Just me being ridiculous, honestly. I think it worked because I successfully confused the algorithm into feeding the video to the larger, general trans TikTok bubble instead of the smaller trans/queer subniche of BookTok

Yeah, the algo seems to really like daily posters. Although if that's not feasible, I've heard any kind of regular predictable posting schedule (every X days) helps the algorithm learn to 'trust' you.

Personally I'm really bad at TikTok though, I made exactly one high effort quality video that hit my niche target audience perfectly, and then I didn't know how to follow it up, so everything else kinda flopped after that π

From what I understand the algorithm heavily rewards consistent posting. Comments significantly boost the visibility of content, so engaging questions are useful. People also tend to favorite/bookmark long lists of books, which also makes the algorithm feed that content to more people.

I can't stop cackling at what I just wrote. I don't know when this book will be ready. It's gonna be in editing purgatory for a long time, I think. But I can't wait for this one ridiculous dialogue exchange to make it to the final draft entirely untouched.

Is it true that Canadian citizenship can now be retroactively granted regardless of generation? If so, shoutout to my great great great grandmother!
I have no present intention of leaving California, but it'd be nice to have a passport that couldn't be suddenly revoked at one fascist's behest.

I've decided I'm going to celebrate #ReadAnEbookWeek by reviewing some stories in the "A Very Queer March!" book bundle! Link to the bundle in the replies! @ormakal.bsky.social
Hints for the 1st book I'm reviewing:
1. It's by an author I've had my eye on for AGES.
2. Not all angels are innocent.

I also had an epiphany about a possible sequel to Our Simulated Selves. I didn't want to mess with OSS again unless I found a really good angle, but today I thought of the perfect title for a follow-up. I'm gonna keep that title to myself for now, but I hope I can write a book worthy of it someday.

Still making slow progress on that paranormal T4T farm romance novel. I'm finally hitting that satisfying point in the draft where the plotlines all fully collide. It also helps that I'm finally approaching the strange, twisty phase of the story that is more in my wheelhouse.

Of course, I thought of it as an absurdist, self-indulgent meta exercise inspired by Kaufman's "Adaptation", not something eerily predictive of a technology that was less than a decade away. Wish I'd written it now.
Here's hoping "Our Simulated Selves" didn't predict any near future technologies.

In a writing slump in 2014, I roughly outlined a prequel to my screenplay that would later become "Our Simulated Selves." It was titled 'The Scriptwriter' wherein the depressed coder Ren tried programming the supercomputer AI, TASA, to write a screenplay, yielding confusing slop and meta bullshit.

Oh, I will! The thing I love most about the Rankane dynamic is the agonizing slow burn, so I remember setting it down for a while when I saw how the time skip went. But I definitely will pick it up again sometime!

Oh, hey! I read the first four books of your Phoenix saga last year and loved them! I don't usually read a lot of fanfic but Rankane is everything to me, and you nailed them so well.
It is cracking me up that you somehow hadn't confronted your own business before writing all that!

Our Simulated Selves by Nikki Null
A trans cyberthriller novel about a simulated apocalypse and recursive truths.
Sigh. Another year, another surprise $1600 dental emergency. Anyone know 320 people who want to buy a really cool trans sci-fi thriller for $4.99?

'Harder mode' narrows it down considerably because I love sci-fi and horror-adjacent stuff, but there are still so many films that would fit for me.
But none quite like Hundreds of Beavers. I have seen it so many times, but I could never get tired of this movie.

I feel the same reluctance to outright label myself with neurodivergence, not because those frameworks don't explain me or help me understand or manage myself, but because I don't want to take up space when others are affected by it more strongly. Why am I like this? Sigh.

For the last 10 years I've had recurring hip pain that flares up intermittently for weeks at a time, making it agonizing to sleep, walk, sit, or stand. And yet I hesitate to call it 'chronic pain' because it goes away sometimes and it feels like that label belongs to people who have it worse?

Observing Trans Day of Remembrance 2025
Remembering those weβve lost over the past year.
Good evening all. For this year's Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR), TFR remembers three transfeminine authors who passed away this year: Miss Major Griffin-Gracy (78), Valerie Amelia Thompson (38), and Michelle Duff (85) π€
We also remember 367+ victims of anti-trans violence and suicide π―οΈ
