Huaiyan, super small, is carrying a new sword up the steps of the exalting sanctum and Blade spots him, notes that the old man is struggling. Blade stops and offers a hand, making Huaiyan shine with gratitude at the sudden kind gesture. Blade is seen carrying the sword against his chest as he continues to climb the steps.

Still, Huaiyan, very, very tiny, is struggling to take the steps one at a time. Blade notes this and stops once more, kneeling and wordlessly offering Huaiyan a piggy back ride. Huaiyan shines with ever more gratitude than before. As he takes to Blade's back, he says to Blade "You've always been a kind boy, sonny," shocking Blade with these hauntingly familiar words.

Blade recalls fragmented, fuzzy, out of focus memories. When he was a kid and human, riding the back of a younger, less small, old man Huaiyan, who tells him, "You're a good boy, son," as his kid self, bruised with some kind of injury, cries onto his back, clinging to his robe. Blade is silent as darkness creeps across the next panel, visually burning away these fond memories. He thinks to himself, "Sonny? Is this old man... mistaking me for someone?" as he continues to take Huaiyan up the flight of stairs...
