I've been laid up this week with COVID at an auspicious time. My one vaccine booster was in early 2022 when my job required it. I thought: many people were getting infected despite vaccination and I'd already had COVID, so why bother? I'll tell you why: these symptoms are brutal for brain and body.

What I saw at immigration court this morning is unfathomably cruel.
The judge dismissed several casesβincluding that of a dad and his 2-yr-old son. Now subject to expedited removal, he expected to be arrested by ICE outside. Luckily they made it home.
We can't be a city that tears families apart.

I donβt know if this is helpful but my physician just calls one of mine in for me every month rather than have me try to get it refilled myself, which was a nightmare. And then CVS texts me that itβs ready for pick-up.

have a sudden craving for a bowl of chili/cornbread from Angelica Kitchen, which has now been closed for seven years. can anyone recommend a hippie vegetarian restaurant in the five boroughs? something with a lot of seitan on the menu, with nothing sleek about it?

photo of elevator buttons showing all the finish woen of the "door close" button from use, while the "door open" button is pristine
I love my fellow New Yorkers and this wear pattern evidence that they aren't reopening the elevator doors for anyone who comes running...

ProPublica spoke with 135 people who had experienced "sweeps" of homeless encampments. We also distributed notecards so people could write about it in their own words.
In Portland, Teresa Stratton told us her husbandβs ashes were taken in a removal: propub.li/4fW8YIT
