Yes they needed replacements, but there's a reason clubs never spend £200m on strikers in one window. If they'd spend the £125m on players they need rather than Isak they'd be in a much better position. They could've got a winger who can play false 9 or even a cheaper backup. But they got greedy. Slot is not blameless, but that summer spending didn't help. ZippysTeeth: Indeed. Get the director football and recruitment out from the shadows. The squad overhaul smacked of a commercial motivation only - contracts, player values, value added and lost on players (aka 'assets'). What role did the hedge fund play in maximising squad value? Seems like the ine consuderation they forgot is whether all these assets can gel as a team. Get them out in front of the cameras for once. I doubt it if Slot had much input into that at all and yet he's the one feeling the heat while the rest can all sut in relative obscurity up in the stands, grimacing and sucking their teeth.
