It is a heavy family day.

As we start a new week, and kids and their families get ready to go back to school, and community continues with a heavy heart, here again are some resources if you need them. (And it is absolutely ok if you need them).

Canadians and British Columbians are coming together, we are united as we stand with Tumbler Ridge and each other, in grief and in support.

That is who we have to be.

We can't this tragedy be exploited to attack Trans and queer people.

Choose love, choose truth, choose care

My thoughts are with everyone in Tumbler Ridge. My heart is with those facing unimaginable loss, with those injured, and with first responders and those who jumped into action.

Practice love, generosity, and kindness in the days and the road ahead.

National Toy Museum of Canada is open again!

From action figures 🤖 to retro collectibles 🕹️, it’s a place where childhood memories come rushing back + new ones are made.

Community support keeps this wonder growing. Absolutely worth a visit if you love history, play, or just a good dose of joy.

The Legislature starts sitting again soon! This is a reminder that the Legislature is the people’s house and you can come visit and watch the debates anytime. If you want to watch question period - the most dramatic part of the day, reach out to my office for tickets. Please come, please join us!

We also saw the mosaic of Tahlequah carrying the calves she lost. A little tile says “the whales wail” 💔 if you don’t know the story of this momma whale (J35 in the resident population), it’s worth looking into.

#DYK Tlikwaynung is the Lekwungen name for what we now call Trial Island - a place where there were lots of seals!

Tlikwaynung is an ecological reserve - vernal pools, camas, and Garry oaks.

Busy week - I meet with parents and teachers across the city to talk education and what our students, and teachers need.

I connected with Fernwood NRG, The Cook Street Activity Centre, Cridge, Transition House, the Allied Health Centre and Primary Care Network, DGV, Pacifica Housing, and Peers!

Next time you're walking through James Bay, stop by Irving Park and check out the plaque honouring Gibbs and remember the long history of Black leadership and contribution here in our city.

More local #VictoriaBC Black history. Meet Mifflin Wistar Gibbs - one of the first Black elected officials in Canada.

He came to Victoria as part of a wave of Black settlers in the 1850s and was a businessman and City Councillor from 1966 to 1869
