I feel that. Ran a game of Ghost Hunters at a con, with players who'd never played WoD before. They accidentally stumbled upon the one thing that would diffuse the whole situation. All items could do was sit back and say "congrats. You broke the World of Darkness."

I was running a big combat scene while exhausted. The players finally killed the dracolich. I was trying to say something cool and ended up saying, "The bones shatter and rain down in a cascade of calcium."

The cleric instantly claimed "cascade of calcium" as his new death metal band. #dnd #ttrpg

It turned out the mayor wanted to talk to them about a special mission, and rather than waste resources on a scry or sending, figured they'd see the poster and try to claim their own reward. It worked.

Last session, I let my players know there was a wanted poster offering a reward for their capture and delivery to the mayor. No other information. Half of the session was spent trying to remember what they'd done, if they should skip town, and how to turn each other in for the reward. #dnd #ttrpg

Me: what part of "I'm a terrible person so please tell me your triggers before hand" did you not understand?!
