Striking is a last resort.

But when a millionaire VC gets a 5.8% pay rise, and then staff doing the front-line work to achieve ACU's mission get offered 2.5%, staff should be congratulated for standing up for themselves and their university. ✊

This damning report is really worth reading and the language of the authors’ criticism of uni executives and their failure to acknowledge the governance crisis is uncharacteristically strong.

Time for ACU leadership to value ACU staff!

This relates to casual professional staff penalty rates, which were discussed in bargaining talks in 2022/3 including a then-DVC and the then-CPO.

If that level of #UniCanberra is aware of the problem, and staff were still being underpaid, it's a governance issue.

ANU arts dean criticised as staff wait for tangible changes Some staff are 'waiting to see signs' that relationships can be repaired.

"I am still waiting to see any sign that the CASS Dean can repair relationships, demonstrate she has listened, or change course."

The last vestiges of Renew ANU are still with us. @nteunion.bsky.social wants to see CASS restructuring end & #ANU cultural change.

Much attention has been on ANU but the governance crisis is broad and deep across the sector. Close scrutiny needs to be applied *everywhere*. This is shameful from UTS management.

As much as we applaud @nteunion.bsky.social members exercising their HSR rights to protect their colleagues in the workplace, it should never have been necessary at #ANU.

The university employers association has said they are coming after members' hard-won redundancy provisions, and have again refused to take responsibility for their systemic wage theft.

Realistically, we need to change both the Chancellor *and* the current broken system of governance at #ANU.

Of course, that is not to say that underfunding by the Federal Government hasn't played a part too - it's time to replace the Job Ready Graduates package.

It has taken time to get university governance on the public radar.

Our sector has experienced casualisation, wage theft, & mass job cuts.

@nteunion.bsky.social, especially @alisonbarnes.bsky.social, have been great at going after the root cause - the leadership & governance crisis in higher ed.

The Interim Report is out on the Senate's inquiry into the 'Quality of governance at Australian higher education providers'.

@nteunion.bsky.social members haven't just been fighting against job cuts, but have also been fighting to ensure they don't ever happen again. ✊
