Canada Sets Sights on New Electricity Projects in Quest for Energy Growth Canada is likely to see major new electricity transmission projects on the east and west coasts as the government moves to increase energy production, the country’s natural resources minister said.

The new federal government has taken positive first steps in building energy infrastructure, Bernstein says, and now needs to cancel regulatory policies that overlap with carbon pricing, such as the oil and gas cap and Clean Electricity Regulations.

(2/3) If the federal government uses the Building Canada Act judiciously, while honouring commitments to Indigenous rights and environmental protections, then the bill could be the tool we need to streamline the federal regulatory approvals process and get Canada building.

(1/3) Clean Prosperity believes that bill C-5 will be a valuable tool to help Canada build out the economy of the future. Canada needs new tools to turn the new spirit of federal-provincial cooperation into reality, and to accelerate the build-out of decarbonized energy infrastructure across Canada.

"Strong industrial carbon pricing eliminates the need for duplicate policies such as the oil and gas emissions cap, which has created friction between Alberta and the federal government," Bernstein wrote.
