The room is decorated like a Best Western hotel room circa 1992 with a round art piece on the wall, some fake plants in the back, and a round vase with calla lillies. She has a bag slung o'er her shoulder and has stopped to look at a sculpture/art piece on the table. It looks like 3 stone blocks stacked on top of one another but getting slightly smaller as they go, and sitting on the top is a more rounded stone. Closed caption reads, "Last time we did that, I was sore for a week."

According to Hunter, a small detail in the script about her going barefoot in one scene led to her understanding Nahla Ake's physcality, particulary owing to her nature as part-Lanthanite: "Alex had written that my character was barefoot, and I loved that. That kind of opened up this whole idea of what she might be like, physically, for me. It had to do with her being [part-Lanthanite], and it also had to do with my name, which is ‘water in the desert.' Wherever I am, whatever environment that I’m in, I’m going to explore it with my body. It gave every scene, many scenes, a whole different vibe, a different texture, and it put me in a different place."

In order to dive into the role of a pilot in the STAR TREK Universe, Cabrera consulted maps and binged older episodes: "The scripts are so dense, and I had to do a lot of work in my mind to get a sense of where I was [in the galaxy]. It’s the most visual work I had to do for myself. I had to really imagine where I was and what all the planets looked like. Sometimes it's just one sentence in the script and you just over-read it, but I was really breaking into those descriptions for myself. Because I was a pilot, [Producer] Kirsten Beyer was very helpful for this kind of thing. I just kind of picked her mind about the world we’re in. I had maps on my wall, just to sense of the geography of it all. Rios is a guy who knows his way around. And I kind of needed to see it all in my head."

I didn’t watch every episode, but it was really helpful to go back and see it. It was such a ballsy show for that time. To open with Q!"
