Students don’t need chromebooks and AI tutors, they need Shakespeare and Jane Austen and the Greek myths, they need the Arthurian Legends and the Arabian Nights, they need constant exposure to nature, fairytales, folklore, poetry and beauty.

Izuku was not going to survive the deadline of their contract marriage.
*You’re gonna be the death of me, Midoriya Katsuki.*
This carefree, unbridled joy and amusement. And he wanted to be the reason Katsuki laughed.
He wanted to hear it again.
And in that moment, Izuku knew he had royally fucked up.
There was no way he was surviving the year after Katsuki left him. He had gotten a taste of what it felt like.
He stayed out of Katsuki’s way, avoiding him, watching him from the window. Watching him thrive when Izuku wasn’t around. He didn’t want to be the reason Katsuki’s smile dropped. He didn’t want Katsuki to look at him like that, with fear and disgust.
He wanted this laugh.
The house felt lived in, the radio humming retro songs, Katsuki singing along. He was a terrible singer but he sang with all his heart.
Izuku would often stay outside the apartment, waiting for Katsuki to go to bed, before slipping in.
The brighter part of life that Izuku had lost with the business. In the two months of marriage, Izuku had gotten used to Katsuki’s presence in his life. The house no longer smelled stale, filled with the smell of stew and oranges.
19.08.2025 11:48 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0In all honesty, Izuku had forgotten what it was like to laugh after all these years in the underbelly of the city, knee deep in politics and bloodshed.
Katsuki’s laughter felt like the first rays of sunlight of spring that melted the snow. A feeling he wanted to keep locked away, just for him.
“You, are something, Midoriya.” He laughed, the adrenaline catching up to him.
Izuku stared. He didn’t know the blond could let out such a delightful sound.
He looked at the most powerful man of Japan, pouting in front of him like a kid being scolded, and for the first time in the two months of their marraige, Katsuki laughed.
Izuku was startled, watching the blond throw his head back, gasping for breath as he clutched his ribs, wheezing in laughter.
decently to look sheepish, not meeting Katsuki’s eyes as he rubbed his neck. “Well I didn’t want a breach of contract. I’m supposed to keep you out fo the mafia business and I should honour my end of the deal.” He mumbled.
The tight knot of fear in Katsuki’s chest unravelled slowly.
Katsuki felt the dread pool in his stomach as he realised just how much of the city was under Midoriya’s control.
“So….” He tried to ignore the fear suffocating him. “This is your way of apologising? Sleeping on hospital floors and offering to traumatise those who look at me wrong?”
Izuku had the
forgiveness and protection from Izuku, the goons heerded away by Aizawa for a proper Midoriya-style warning.
Katsuki turned to his husband, who had casually tortured four people on a weekday, in an amusement park, in the heart of the city.
The goons bowed their heads, joining their hands in front of Katsuki. “Oh my god we’re sorry Midoriya-sama. We’ll never bother you again.” With a jolt Katsuki realised they were addressing him as Midoriya-sama.

Izuku regarded him before gesturing to the henchmen to extinguish the fire and unstrap the goons.
Izuku’s fingers loosely wrapped around his wrist. Not forceful, but a request. To stay.
“Katsuki, this will scare them enough to leave you alone, you need to be here. Otherwise these two bit goons are gonna attack you again and the cycle will just continue.”
“I….”Katsuki’s head starting spinning
him, ushering him to the bench. “Don’t worry they won’t die. Atmost second degree burns and possible cardiac arrest.”
“I…..stop this, I don’t like all this….the contract explicitly mentions that I don’t want to be involved in any of this mafia shit. Let me go.” Katsuki moved to leave, stopped by

“Get them down, or punish them someplace away from me!”
“I’m not punishing them, I’m respecting your wishes. You didn’t want revenge. This is just a warning.” Izuku stared at the screaming goons with cold eyes. “They don’t touch what’s mine.”

“What the fuck, stop that!” Katsuki shrieked, Izuku munching on popcorn, watching the spectacle and Katsuki’s crash out with mild amusement.

Izuku turned to face him. “Terrible use of freewill.” Katsuki rolled his eyes. “Anyway, I’m not gonna kill them just…..instil the fear of god in them.”

Katsuki didn’t bother asking him, not in the mood to be answered in riddles.
“I’ve found the people who attacked you.” Izuku started conversationally.
“Rule No. 2, husband.” Katsuki drawled, sarcastically. “I don’t care for your dealings and what you do. I’m not mafia like you.
“Where exactly are we?” Katsuki asked as they reached the place, Izuku already waiting for him.
Aizawa shrugged. “I guess you’ll find out soon enough.”
Izuku led him towards the amusement park down the block, suspiciously empty for a Friday night.
“Where?”
Izuku perked up, surprised at Katsuki cooperating and schooled his face into a blank, neutral expression. “I’ll send Aizawa to pick you up.”
Katsuki exhaled sharply. He never got a straight answer from Izuku, and it didn’t look he was starting anytime soon.
