In the haze of anger, he jerked his arm up and in an instant crumbled, curling on himself and crying out at the shooting pain.

"Careful!" Izuku snapped, wrapping his hands around him rather gently, contrasting his tone and guided him into a chair. He poured out a glass of water.

"I'm home." Izuku sighed, pressing his lips against Katsuki's temple. "And I'm not going anywhere."

"Try this stunt again and I'll skin you alive."

Izuku chuckeld. "Duly noted."

Izuku leaned down, pressing a soft kiss against Katsuki's forehead, fingers lovingly running through his blond spikes, pushing them back, tracing his hand down from his hair to cradle his face.

"Welcome home you jerk." Katsuki groused as he felt the rumble from Izuku's chest.

Katsuki pressed his cheek against Izuku's, holding him tightly. Now, his nerd was home. Completely.

The vigilante beamed, smile unreserved and contagious, Katsuki couldn't help but mirror him.

"Maybe I should come down to your height chibi." He joked, unbridled relief coursing through his veins, the tense glass wall between them finally breaking as he let himself laugh, playfully punching him as Izuku bent his knees to let Katsuki comfortably wrap his arms around Izuku

Katsuki, by habit, reached up to wrap his arms around his neck, wincing as searing pain shot through his veins, clutching his torso.

Katsuki froze, snapping up to gauge Izuku's reaction, worried he'd go back to being distant, blaming himself.

"I'm right here." Katsuki consoled him, letting Izuku regain his composure, blinking back tears of his own.

Izuku pulled back, smiling through the tears and cradled Katsuki's face before dropping down to his hips, pulling him closer.

Katsuki leaned back, pressing his forehead against his, both breathless with tear streaked faces, clutching into each other.
Izuku had a death grip on him, as if afraid he’d disappear if he loosened his hold. As if he’d slip away from his fingers like sand.

“And I couldn’t do anything.” His voice rose with frustration, Katsuki rubbing circles into his back.

“Outside the door, I….not knowing whether you’ll make it or not, I-I was s-so scared, Katsuki!”

That was the last straw. Izuku shattered like glass, wrapping his arms around Katsuki with silent sobs.

“Y-you looked so pale when I brought you in. I thought you weren’t—” He blubbered, unable to complete the thought, fingers fisting into Katsuki’s shirt, knuckles turning white

Katsuki stepped closer, thumb wiping away the lone tear that rolled down the spy’s freckled cheek.
“Don’t push me away.” Katsuki’s voice cracked, frowning as Izuku leaned down to press his forehead against his. “Hurts.” Katsuki managed to choke out.

“And villains are all over Japan, scattered and at large /and/ they recognise me! So would you rather have me run into them when I’m alone and bleed to death in an alley? Or would you stay by my side and protect me to the best of your capabilities, haah?!”

”I-”

Izuku’s grip tightened on the countertop.

Katsuki shifted, lifting Izuku’s chin, voice getting softer with each word. “Listen, it’s dangerous dating you I fucking get it alright? But that doesn’t mean you push me away when things get hard. You’re reverting."

”You cannot always protect me. Get that straight.” Katsuki prodded along, Izuku’s eyes downcast. “Get down from your high horse of martyrdom, you can't control everything that happens in our lives. It’s my job to let the people be aware of what’s going on in the damn country!”

Katsuki lifted his chin up, squaring his shoulders and looking him straight in the eye. “You cannot always be there to protect me.”

Izuku flinched, closing his eyes as he let his hand fall from beside Katsuki’s head.

”I know.”

"These memories are all I have. You had no right snatching that away from me."

"I-I'm..." Izuku squeezed his eyes shut, "I'm sorry. I just...seeing you so….pale and cold….I felt so useless. I hate that."

But he had no idea how much Katsuki was hurting from all this, the weight of his actions finally dawning on him.

While Izuku bore the weight of crushing guilt, Katsuki had his expectations crushed again and again, mercilessly.

The frustration and anger finally broke through the dam, Izuku's heart stabbed with guilt.

Pulling way from Katsuki had killed him from within, like he had lost an arm, withdrawn and distant in his own shell.

"I was this close," Katsuki's eyes hardened, blazing in anger "to losing you with my final memories of you neglecting me. I couldn't remember the last time you touched me as if I wasn't fucking poison. I couldn't remember what your voice sounds like when you say my name, dammit!"

"All I ask is for those numbered moments. You can't snatch that from me Izuku." Katsuki whimpered, "For the past two weeks, all I could think of was I'd probably never get to see you again and I can't seem to remember the last fucking decent conversation I had with you!"

"For you to push me away when things go wrong? I was right here, beside you but you weren't there with me when I needed you the most."

Tears rolled down his cheeks, sniffing as he tried to wipe them away angrily.

"You can't." Katsuki spoke his thoughts out loud, reading his mind. He unclenched his hands, shoving Izuku. "After five months after finishing up an assignment, I came back to you, hoping to spend time with you and make up for all that lost time, to stay beside you for what?!"

Izuku squeezed his eyes shut. He knew he couldn't. Being a vigilante was a choice he had made his peace with. There was so definite surety of a tomorrow.

He could never give Katsuki that stability. Fieldwork was unpredictable.

"NOW!" Katsuki gritted his teeth, "You came back now! What if you don't the next time? Our entire lives are going to be a big 'what if', Izuku! Every time you get take on a case, I will never fully know you if will come back to me! Can you guarantee that? Answer me!"

"Every time you walk out the door, it's a gamble whether you'd come back to me or not. The little time we have together, those few days, you cannot snatch that from me! What if you didn't come back from this mission?"

"But I did. I came back"

Katsuki grabbed the front of Izuku's shirt, pulling him forward rashly, forcing him to look at him. "You had no right doing that to me. You have a commitment towards me, dammit!"

"We are already on limited time Izuku!" Katsuki was distraught, the urgency slipping into his words.
