Rainbow flag's creator didn't celebrate his home state, but Kansans keep his memory alive Gilbert Baker left Kansas as soon as he could. But, as many around the world celebrate LGBTQ pride month, it's worth noting that Kansas also struggled to hold the flag creator dear.

Gilbert Baker, born in Chanute, Kansas, in 1951, designed the rainbow flag that's now flown all over the world to signify support for LGBTQ equality and pride.

Kansas City is trying to overhaul Troost Avenue and fix more of its dangerous roads The city will hire a consultant to decide how to best improve its deadliest streets. It will also apply for a federal grant to redo the majority of Troost Avenue.

Nearly 100 people died on Kansas City roads last year, mostly on streets known to be dangerous. Now, the city will pay half a million dollars to figure out how to make its most dangerous roads safer.
