I tend to favour them as upgrades on MIM Fenders and Epihones, which don't really justify boutique level pickup costs.

Good question! It depends on the application, but having spent loads on Seymours and DiMarzios in my youth I find there is a sweet spot these days with brands like Tonerider or particularly Iron Gear here in the Uk which are high quality and sound excellent for half the cost.

For me it doesn't, just because i don't hear a difference. I'm much more concerned about the pickups and amp. Wood is more about weight and aesthetics for me

Mine was an Antoria strat copy from the '70s bought used in 1984 after selling an early home computer which I decided was too boring and had no future😂. Pre internet I had no idea that it was actually a good lawsuit era guitar! Enjoy yours, looks great and the first one is always special 👍🏻
