Agreed. Is there some measure of when you are being exploited as a colony or just a weaker trading partner? Apologies for my lack of historical knowledge; feeling my way here.

Is this only exploitation if the data is β€˜personal’. Perhaps this is a question about the technical ability (and financial motivation/desire) to anonymise health data?

How does this work when some countries are banning social media for U16s? Perhaps we should teach children the benefits of β€˜avatar’ accounts and uBlock Origin?

Viral social media posts have made a number of claims about how pension contributions are saved and spent.

But their sums are wrong, and they misunderstand how the state pension works.

To be fair, I agree with keeping damages low/none where people are just β€˜chancing’ their arm. But .. it should be recognised that there is a real emotional drain when, for example, there is a loss of services due to data breach, even if for a short period of time.

I wonder what the quantum of damages will be? It may be non material damage, but what risk to the controller? The UK has set (case law) quite low expectations in terms of financial compensation for such damages.

Digital Omnibus Day!
If you're a DPO spanning UK and EU digital realms, DUAA statistical cookies will have been giving you a headache.

Now, it looks like we can co-ordinate on deployment of our #CMP and have one set of #analytics cookies drop regardless of where the site visitor is from.

Opinion β€” Rep. Monique Priestley and Caitriona Fitzgerald: Why data privacy is the key to unlocking affordability We need to demand transparency, accountability and, ultimately, control over our data.

"The national conversation has rightly focused on affordability. But these conversations are incomplete without addressing one of the root causes: the unchecked collection, use and sale of our personal data"

Got me thinking about the definition of profiteering and what is unreasonable or unethical? In capitalist societies, do we codify this in some way or is it just a moral compass/gut feeling kind of thing? Astute timing and recognition of a supply/demand opportunity are the stuff of MBAs.
