The government has just announced that it´s scrapping FPTP for mayoral elections.

In May, this absurd system resulted in some Mayors being elected on as little as 25% of the vote.

This is a victory of communities around the country. But it's just the beginning...

A sunny day for our first Witney Street Stall this year. We enjoyed speaking with a number of interested members of the public about the need to replace our outdated and undemocratic voting system with Proportional Representation.

Time for England to come into step with other regions of the UK?
Make Votes Matter (MVM) is a cross-party, non-party campaign group that promotes Proportional Representation.

The administrations in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Greater London Assembly all use various types of PR for elections to their devolved assemblies, and the Welsh Senedd has legislated to allow councils in Wales to adopt PR for local elections.

With local elections due to take place across Oxfordshire in May, MVM supporters talked to Charlie about the fact that England is the only part of the United Kingdom that continues to adhere to First Past the Post (FPTP) for local, as well as national, elections.

Charlie is a firm advocate of the need to change the current voting system to a form of Proportional Representation. The Valentine card was presented to him by local campaigners for ‘Make Votes Matter’ (MVM) whose message read,
