A highlight for me: holding and banding a cinnamon teal.

Visit Bosque del Apache NWR in Socorro, NM, during winter. Snow geese make the sky all white at dawn & dusk. More SH cranes & geese than you can imagine. Sunrises are also incredible (saw lots of them banding ducks @ pre-dawn).

Learning the history of TX explained A LOT. Even Larry McMurtry (born & raised in TX) disliked TX. Said once in an interview TX will never let go of their myths and Texans truly believe it/they are the β€œlast frontier”. Even if it destroys them.

Repeatedly said before #OrangeHair sat in Office, Am citizens will be killed by his denizens, like Kent State.
Reply: β€œThe police wouldn’t shoot or kill their own peaceful citizens.”
I said often that he will start a war.
Reply:”He won’t be able to do that.”
Yet here we are 14 months into it. 😑

George Carlin on Euphemisms
YouTube video by falsemorel212 George Carlin on Euphemisms

A rose is a rose.
Aka a pretty overly-fragrant flower on a painful thorny stem and plant that is also a pain to grow.
Euphemisms are about the same. A pain in the arse.

Seriously, call the HELP committee members and your own two Senators to tell them to sink this nomination. When I say Means is bad news, I mean *really bad.*

Met a lot of women like this in Texas, even back in the early 2000’s.

The most insipid lazy thought I’ve ever heard.

Or, as a pathology colleague sarcastically called it, a form of β€œhuman rabies”. 😏

Tr*mp’s disregard for science and health of American people is obvious. It’s part of his ( & sycophants) pathology. Also legitimizing it for those who want to take advantage of that for their own selfish/sadistic means at all levels of our society.

The β€œ #Bogner Files”.
Shame that scientific life-valuable data/information is in similar bad-actor boat as the Epstein files.
Hoping that scientists and capable agency quickly resolve this so good science can move on unhindered. Lives depend on it.

Sadly, all this ( #GISAID) is
like a scientific version of the β€œEpstein files” w/ scientific data being hidden/β€˜trafficked’/held hostage/etc. The β€œBogner Files”? All members of the GISAID science advisory council & compliance board approve of this? Or just another β€˜good ol’ boys’ club?

I prefer technical terms. Many of us on the Spectrum struggle with the barrage of colloquial terms popping up.

Shirt with People's Republic of Pangea.

Shirt with People's Republic of Pangea.

That is so awful and absolutely inexcusable. Every day I feel embarrassment to be an 'American'.
When asked I say I'm a 'Pangean'.
Still wear the shirt.... 😏

I should add as an Aspie, facts and technical language is my modus operandi. And I still get the "Explain it in 'English', please?"
Learning to "tell stories" was challenging. But now it's (sometimes) fun. Like explaining quantum entanglement to my aphantasiac daughter. I can't say, "Imagine...."

Resorted to using all metaphors: janitors, trucks, cell doors, warehouse, etc. It was like an 'Osmosis Jones' (movie) take. Accuracy wasn't imp; the story was. (7/7)

Humans prefer stories, no matter what language or context it's in. It's what humans relate to.
Yes, it took me years to comprehend that. ;)
My breakthrough was when I explained insulin-glucose metabolism to non-science friends in a restaurant. (6/7)

We had several drinks in the bar about that one. Similarly, later, was how our gnotobiotic pigs were 'exterminated'. I remembered that 'sacrificed' is more polite than the actual method.
Language is a funny thing. "Dry" wording doesn't really tell a story. (5/7)
