Then when you think the movie's winding down, she immediately starts poking holes in his story, trying to get him convicted for the lover's death. There's absolutely no benefit to her in it, beyond revenge for his failure to die. She has my full support.

She plots to kill her husband with her lover, but the lover ends up dead and the husband hides out in Idaho hoping she gets the chair for his supposed murder. He can't do it, goes back and comes up with a pretty bad story that would however get them both out.

Impact (1949) is an uneven picture, where all the seedy scenes are good fun, but the "small towns and cops good" stuff is unbearably sentimental and at 110 minutes it's way too long. However, the film gets a hundred extra points for Helen Walker's cold, cold femme fatale.

I don't think the Morrissey of this era was incel-y. I Know it's Over is about a proto-incel guy and the part where the bride talks to him is a brutal takedown of that kind of a guy.

I really liked G-Reco's Manny, who despite being friends with the hero tries to kill him with his boyfriend (for kinda bad reasons). Not only isn't she punished in any way, she gets a happily ever after with said boyfriend. An intertextually rich move for what is probably Tomino's last work.

One redeeming factor is how he doesn't write the "bad women" off. Like Reccoa and Katejina's writing is out there, but they never stop being human and the writing has sympathy for them until the end.

Yeah, some critiques of that show are in such bad faith. Giving the villain a few good points to make them seem initially reasonable is the kind of advanced writing trick they use in Disney films.
