Discovered today that Instagram had turned on (without my opt-in) automatic AUDIO translation of any reel that shows up in my feed not in English USING AI TO MIMIC THE SPEAKER’S VOICE and WOW it was creepy and upsetting.

You can turn it off in “Language & Translations” in Settings. 🙅🏻‍♀️

At some point in time a co-worker changed their default file association of .jpeg's to be adobe reader, seemingly without any memory or knowledge of doing so. I have fixed it for her, but have very little confidence it won't happen again.

No, and it wouldn't have really been helpful in this case. There was no contact and even if I submit it to the police, they don't do anything about it. I know several cyclists who regularly report dangerous driving to law enforcement and nothing happens. Though I should probably buy one anyway.

I even like the way the Thursday Murder Club books look so I might try to track down the paperbacks. I don't know how else to describe them except as delicious mysteries. I really should spend some time re-reading some other classic mysteries as well.

Ever since watching The Thursday Murder Club movie, I've wanted to go back to the books and re-read them. The casting decisions for the movie were so good! The only characters who really shifted at all for me were Ron & his son.

BC Green Party Leader Emily Lowan and members of the BC Greens will join two protests in Vancouver tomorrow, Friday, January 31, opposing Canadian corporate partnerships with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Lowan will speak at both actions. The protests target Hootsuite for their business ties to Palantir, a company whose technology is used by ICE to carry out surveillance, detention, and deportation, and The Jim Pattison Group, whose property arm is in the process of selling a Virginia warehouse that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security intends to use as an ICE holding and processing facility—a deal that has drawn criticism from activists and community groups.

Protest details: • 3–5 pm: Hootsuite Headquarters, 111 East 5th Ave With Democracy Rising Now • 5–7 pm: Pattison Headquarters, 1067 West Cordova With Indivisible Vancouver The BC Greens are calling on Canadian companies to immediately sever ties with ICE-linked contractors and for elected leaders to speak out against corporate complicity in state violence.

There will be two protests today against B.C.-based companies who are doing business with ICE. The first at Hootsuite's HQ in Mount Pleasant starting at 3:00; the second in front of the Pattison Group's office downtown.
