Also, I really didn't like the movie framing the monster for murdering the old man. I think it's more tragic that the family rejects him purely because he's hideous, and really that's all that needs to be said.

Not to say Frankenstein in the novel was redeemable, but stories nowadays seem to lack the kind of moral nuance that lend themselves to tragedy. You can see glimpses of the better man Victor could have been in the novel, but not in the movie that literally says "...you are the real monster." (3/3)

Shelley is making a point of paternal abandonment and coldness towards their offspring, something that doesn't come across as well in the new movie I feel. This Frankenstein is more obviously evil, and you don't have an ounce of sympathy towards him... (2/3)

I think it's a gorgeous movie but I didn't really like Guillermo Del Toro's Frankenstein. Frankenstein's vice in the original novel wasn't his cruelty or manipulation, he loved the people around him dearly. His sin was his cowardice and shame, he abandons his creation like fathers do...(1/3)

Every time I log into FFXIV I get this huge decision paralysis where I have several huge grinds "almost complete" but nothing I can knock out in an hour or two and I do a little bit of each then log off feeling like I haven't really done anything.
