Official poverty and employment measures fail to capture fragile, low-paid labour markets.

So we turned - as ever - to local charities, hosting Wee Listens in Newton Stewart, Stranraer, Dumfries and the Borders👂

What we found👇

Rural Scotland faces unique challenges. Around 30% live in ‘fuel poverty’ - far above the national average.

They're:

🔴Isolated

🔴Dependant on low-wage, seasonal work

🔴Failed by key services retreating to urban centres.
