When drawing the scions back from the lifestream in Ultima Thule, he didn't expect that fleeting thought of his lost lover to actually manifest him back to life. All thanks to Hydaelyn's last parting gift.

Azou walking this entire path to Endwalker because he knew Haurchefant would be waiting at the end of it. He didn't expect nor wanted to survive this last battle. Accidentally summoning him back by nothing but a pure, selfish wish with Hydaelyn's aether-charged Azem crystal wasn't part of the plan.
