Milder air along with strong winds 💨 and heavy rain 🌧️ will erode snow cover across the Southern High Plains and Midwest this week.

High pressure takes control for most areas ☀️. Meanwhile, a series of Atmospheric Rivers will bring significant snow to the northwest US!

MRMS CREST Streamflow may not be representative of observed values along the Green River, but the signal supports a significant increase in flow of water in the basin.

The temporal representation provides a powerful visualization ahead of observed levee failure.

A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for levee failure near Tukwila, 10 miles SE of Seattle, WA.

Streamflow along the Green River increased by an order of magnitude (!) in the 12 hrs preceding levee failure.

These fast-moving systems often produce a razor-sharp cutoff on the southern edge of the storm track, where a small shift north or south can mean the difference between plowable snow and barely a flake.

This is a great example of when wide snowfall forecast ranges may actually be justified.

This is a classic Alberta Clipper setup.

🌊❄️ Why Michigan Isn’t As Cold During Arctic Blasts ❄️🌊

Lake Michigan plays a huge role in protecting the Lower Peninsula from the worst of the cold.

Cold air is forced to pass over the relatively warmer waters of Lake Michigan, which helps moderate temperatures before that air reaches Michigan.

After catastrophic flooding in the Pacific Northwest this past week, another FOOT of rainfall is expected over the next 2 weeks.

When several ensemble means show this kind of signal, it’s worth paying attention to.

It will be quite cold on Sunday morning, per the latest @nws.noaa.gov forecast.

The wind chill will be 10-20 degrees lower than these temperatures in some locations.
