What you need to know about Texas ICE detention deaths
Last year was the deadliest year in ICE detention in two decades. Nearly a quarter of those deaths occurred in Texas.
Last year, the dangerous pattern of neglect and abuse at ICE detention facilities resulted in a record number of deaths.
This can't go on. Our members of Congress must act now.

Part of the strategic dehumanization of our migrant neighbors. You start by stripping them of their personhood, rendering them to second class citizens, and ensuring the language used to describe them keeps them there.
Criminalization is a multi-pronged beast aimed at manufacturing consent.

Amid Mass ICE Arrests, Trump Pardon Recipient Juan Orlando HernΓ‘ndez Given Special Treatment
After the former Honduran president was pardoned, ICE dropped its detainer on him, and he was whisked away to a luxury hotel in New York City.
βItβs...special treatment. That's not...the way it goes" said Lena Graber, a senior staff attorney at the Immigrant Legal Resource Center.
βMost people with drug convictions would never get their ICE detainer removed just because the conviction was pardoned.β

The threat of detention warehouses harkens back to one of our most shameful periods as a nation, when warehouses were used for Japanese American incarceration in the 1940s, which caused immense suffering and generational trauma. It was wrong then and it is wrong now.

As early as October 2025, these expansion plans were underway. Currently, key states find themselves at the heart of these schemes:
Texas (9 leasing projects)
California (7 leasing projects)
New York City/New Jersey (3 locations)
Beyond that, dozens of other cities are similarly impacted.

ICE raids exposing risks in cannabis industry | GreenState
Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids have been increasing, including operations targeting the cannabis industry.
Do you have friends who are immigrants and work in the legal #cannabis industry? Make sure they are aware that state legalization *does not* protect them from deportation by #ICE.
For my newest @yourgreenstate.bsky.social article, I spoke to multiple immigration attorneys who highlighted the risks.

A dark, textured background with deep red splatter-like patterns is overlaid with four horizontal strips designed to look like torn pieces of paper. Each strip contains a quote about conditions inside the California City ICE detention facility, with certain phrases emphasized in red.
Top quote (attributed to The New Yorker):
β[Detained people] described the California City facility as unique in its mistreatment of those held in its custody.β
Second quote (also attributed to The New Yorker):
Describes repeated reports from detained people of extremely delayed medical appointments, denial of medications and treatment, unsafe and unsanitary living conditions, and general antagonism by medical staff. The harms are highlighted in red text for emphasis.
Third quote (testimonial attributed to Gustavo, detained in California City, source: The New Yorker):
βThey are acting as if everybody whoβs here is gonna be deported. Thatβs why I think that they donβt want to spend any money on medication, because they figure weβre just gonna get sent to Mexico.β
The first part of the quote is highlighted in red.
Bottom statistic (attributed to KQED):
βSix people have died in custody this month alone, according to ICE. That comes on top of 32 deaths in 2025, the highest number in two decades.β
The numbers are emphasized in red.
Overall tone: urgent and somber, using stark color contrast and torn-paper styling to convey distress and expose reported harms.
A bold call-to-action graphic with the same dark, red-splattered background.
At the top in large white block letters:
βGET INVOLVEDβ
Below in smaller white text:
βFull closures and non-carceral repurposing are necessary to ensure empty cages can never be refilled again.β
A second line invites action:
βFollow these organizations to stay up to date on updates and actions to shut the California City ICE Detention Facility down:β
A bulleted list of organizations appears in white text:
California Collaborative for Immigrant Justice
Detention Watch Network
Dolores Huerta Foundation β CA City
Freedom for Immigrants
Immigrant Legal Resource Center
Rapid Response Kern
In the bottom-right corner is a logo reading βCURBβ in large white letters over overlapping teal and light-blue shapes.
Overall tone: mobilizing and advocacy-focused, encouraging community action and organizing.

There are many layers to the terror we're seeing on our streets, and the future of the mental health and wellness of those impacted is a conversation we WILL have to confront.
What Christopher points to is true - thousands of kids, and their families, will be strapped with state-induced PTSD, etc.

ICE closes purchase of East San Antonio warehouse it will use as detention site
The federal agency will turn the building into a 1,500-bed "processing center" as the Trump administration continues to ramp up deportation raids.
As tensions rise and ICE funding conversations balloon at the federal level, it is important we also focus on local communities.
San Antonio is one of the latest cities to allow ICE to purchase real estate for the function of creating more detention centers.

Again, this is FALSE. Administrative warrants are NOT signed by an immigration judge (or any judge at all). They are generated and signed by ICE officers themselves with no external oversight whatsoever.
Here is a blank sample warrant. Note who signs off on it; an "immigration officer."
