Step 3. Play! Don't worry about forgetting things or not being "professional." Forgetting isn't a big deal and being "professional" isn't the point. The point is to tell a story together and have a good time.

Step 2. Read said rulebook. There should be instructions in there on how to play said game. Maybe check out an actual play video if it's still unclear.

As I said before, I would like to see Dark Sun rehabilitated. Fixing it's first edition racism it's incredibly easy, and the setting is extraordinarily relevant: fascist tyrants that have wrecked the environment, enacted uncountable genocides, keep people uncultured and enslaved, etc.

That is not a bad thing at all. I'm actually thinking about porting a mechanic from Dungeon Crawl Classics into my D&D games: basically, once a caster runs out of slots, they roll a d6 and can draw energy from their body to cast the spell while taking damage from the d6 roll.

Of course. I write it, so I use it, both mine and others'. It depends on the group and what seems right for them, but I'm absolutely open to 3rd party content at my table.
