The Camellia House in Wollaton Park – Friends of Wollaton Park The Camellia House behind Wollaton Hall, in Wollaton Park, is Grade II listed and one of the earliest cast iron glasshouses in the country, built in 1823.

At our Wollaton dig, we’ve uncovered barbed wire, shreds of clothing, and a possible boot heel plate that may link to the 1945 camp which housed German and Italian prisoners.

We’ve also recovered artefacts dating back to the Medieval period!

Our understanding is the Council agreed to buy Wollaton Hall and park in September 1924 but completion of purchase didn't take place until May 1925.
