Two black birds with red eyes and purple-green metalic sheens to their feathers are hanging almost upside down from two leaf fronds, with more out-of-focus leaves and white sky in the background. The tree is a poinsettia and the birds are metallic starlings

There was an almighty racket above my house one day, and I came out to find a flock of metallic starlings having a grand old time in the poinsettia tree. I was lucky enough to get the beautiful sheen of their feathers in the pics I took.

I can't hide it. I love trees, forests and taking photos of them. Feel free to share your photos of trees in the comments, such that we and other people can enjoy the beauty of them.

Loch Chon reflections on a still morning

Loch Chon reflections on a still morning

Reflections. Loch Chon on a still sunrise. The wind soon picks up at this loch so still conditions tend to be neither regular or long lasting in my experience. I spent a few minutes frantically moving around the shore until I settled on this composition.

A galah with pink underparts, grey wings folded up, a grey-white tail and a pale white cap, is perched on an old leaky freestanding tap. The galah has one foot on top of the tap's pole and one almost gripping the tap handle, and it has wrapped itself around behind the tap handle to sip at leaking water from the handle. There is an obvious watermark running from the leak down, and the tap otherwise is a dull dusty grey. The background is very out of focus and has a bush, dead leaves, and some rocks. The galah is a genius for using a leaky tap as a water source

Every year in spring I spend a night at a very dry campsite in North Queensland, and during the afternoon a flock of galahs (and multiple other birds) always comes down to the campsite to drink from the park's leaky taps. It makes for a lovely afternoon bird watching

Real photograph. Wide angle of the Segla mountain after sunrise. The mountain is slightly off entered to follow the shape of it that goes on the right. The overall ambiance shows a « dual world » created by morning side light filtering through the clouds and the shadows due to the 600 meters cliff in the right that blocks the light. In background the beautiful fjords of Senja unfolds, followed by more mountains. Tones are yellow (light) and blue (shadows). Really unforgettable morning that played huge role in my decision to switch from commercial photographer to full time nature photographer back then.

When the landscape split into a dual world made of light & darkness…
This is Segla mountain in Senja, captured in 2018, on a photo trip on the island. We camped upthere with crazy wind but got well rewarded with light feast in the morning 😊

An Australian pelican, a large white bird with partially black wings, yellow fish-like eyes, and an absurdly large pale pink bill, is lunge feeding in the water. The photo is caught mid-lunge, with the pelican's neck fully extended, its head turned sideways, and the pink sack on the bottom bill distended full of water. The sea water around is grey-silver with pale yellow highlights from the late afternoon sun. There are ripples from wind, and tiny ripples from droplets sprayed by the pelican mid-lunge. There are also some bubbles at the pelican's side. The overall effect is both graceful and ungainly

Another bird picture - this is one of a flock of pelicans local to me, and I have many, many photos of them. When I was a small child pelicans frightened me, because I genuinely thought they might try to eat me up.

Vaguely niche one - Nina is the cousin of Sister Mary, and if Nina and Maggie ever marry poor Sister Mary is going to get a shock seeing Crowley again, probably looking grumpy while holding spare pieces of cake for Aziraphale (he loves it really)

A tangled birch frames the left side and a small group of rocks just breaking the surface of a still lake. The blues of the morning light pass across the water into bands of low mist and eventually to warm light catching the tops of the hills on the far side.

A photograph from under a tree looking up through skinny branches at a brown heron with cream underparts and a navy-blue cap of feathers, who has its neck stretched out comically far so it can give my camera a sarcastic "oh, really?" look. Behind the sarcastic heron are many green leaves with sunlight coming through, and a white sky
