An official letter from the Kansas Division of Vehicles dated February 23, 2026, with a redacted recipient address. The letter notifies the recipient that due to the enactment of Senate Bill 244, all Kansas driver's licenses and IDs must reflect the holder's sex at birth. It states that the recipient's current credential will become invalid immediately upon the law's publication on February 26, 2026, with no grace period. The recipient is directed to surrender their current ID to receive a new one matching their sex assigned at birth. The document concludes with instructions on how to appeal the notice if received in error, along with contact information for the department.
Kansas is sending letters to trans people telling them that their licenses will be revoked as of tomorrow and that they risk arrest for driving on a suspended license.
This is pure cruelty.

"Zero Sum" means the outcome of a change in the system is always a net zero.
Cut a cake into 16 slices. Take one away from one child and give it to another. -1, +1. Net sum is Zero. Still 16 slices of cake.

I've a friend who's a college professor and they've reported something like 40% of their students are obviously using AI to complete assignments. 100% on homework, completely bombing the first in-person test.

The education system is fundamentally broken. Kids are taught to see learning as a chore that gets in the way of the fun stuff they want to do, like play games. Worse, it provides little obvious immediate reward if the kid isn't engaged. So 'skipping' this 'chore' becomes desirable.

Actually the FAQ straight up says "Hey, we'll get stuff wrong sometimes, and it's your fault for trusting us. But keep using us because we'll totally get better over time!"

Naw. This is just a for-profit API hookup into chatGPT or some other big LLM.
The real mechanical turk test is if they're claiming the AI is doing something useful in the real world. Like something a non-tech company would actually want to buy, but it's only in the hands of a tech company.

Arm and leg shots are both less reliable at incapaitating and about as likely to be lethal due to major blood vessels in those regions.

Let me ask you this, so we can get on the same page here -
Imagine you came across a previously undiscovered society with several major factions. What criteria would you use to place those factions on a left-right political spectrum?

The Zapatista territories, for one.
But even in the example above - Mainstream US Liberals believe in softer, more flexible hierarchies than conservatives, and more accountable leadership with more limited authority. Hence why they're center right and not hard right.

I don't know what you mean by "your left"?
Are you talking about a specific group?

The mainstream American Liberal politician falls on the center-right of the political spectrum. I mean, even you put "left" in quotes as though you felt that "left" was not an accurate descriptor for them.

Right wing philosophies, however, from unitary executive theory to monarchy, almost exclusively rely on having a special guy at the very top whom everyone else is supposed to listen to and obey without question. Stalinism maps very cleanly onto that framework.

Stalin and the Bolsheviks co-opted the language of left-wing revolution to consolidate power into a rigid patriarchal state with an absolute, unaccountable leader. Left wing ideologies reject rigid hierarchies and unaccountable leadership. There is no left-leaning philosophy you can map Stalinism on

Stalinism was structurally hard right wing, with an extremely rigid socio-political, gender, sexuality, & race-based hierarchy. Those higher up in said hierarchy being effectively unaccountable to those below. No different from, say, Uganda under Idi Amin, undeniably a right-wing authoritarian state

To be fair - Stalinism was a right wing regime with a communist veneer.

Sadly the venn diagram between "Jobs AI can do" and "Jobs at risk from AI [salespeople]" has very little, if any overlap.

not only that, the "firearms blueprint detection algorithms" would either be so narrow as to be useless - bypassed with simple tweaks to the part - or so aggressive every block with a notch is at risk of being flagged as a firearm component. Or most likely, both.

Had an art teacher who used to say "Everyone has 300 bad drawings in them. Do one drawing each day and you'll be making good drawings by the end of a year."

I remember a behind the scenes documentary where one of the crew hoped MST3K would be around long enough for CGI dinosaurs to be of comparable price to the kitbashed props y'all use.
Given that's true now, will there be CGI dinosaurs in the new episodes?

That's why they love libertarianism - it allows them the political leeway to selectively weaken institutions that stand as obstacles to their takeover.
That's also why you don't see nations that gradually track left fall to authoritarians, while nations that gradually track right do so all the time

Socialism requires strong institutions (different from a strong state) to function.
Autocrats require weak institutions to take over.
In times of violent revolution, autocrats join the side that will do the most damage to the extant state, using that side's language.

No true compassion for him. They hollowed out his corpse and used it to hock cheap merch at his own funeral.

Oh god, I saw "Walz arrested clergy" and assumed it was the covid thing rearing its ugly head again. Not the more recent clergy arrests with the ICE protests.

Also arrested was a pastor in Florida, but despite signing similar orders to the ones Walz did, you'll note there's no "DeSantis arrested pastors" outrage.

Walz was probably unaware of this group until after they got arrested and rw press picked up on "Walz arrests clergy."
Critically, the only way to reasonably stop this from happening would be to give groups like this a free pass to ignore covid restrictions.

The clergy were part of a group of right wing agitators who were very deliberately and publicly violating covid precautions, and were cautioned, then warned on multiple occasions that their activities would lead to arrest.
This group was trying to get arrested for publicity.
