An official letter from the Kansas Division of Vehicles dated February 23, 2026, with a redacted recipient address. The document concludes with instructions on how to appeal the notice if received in error, along with contact information for the department.

Kansas is sending letters to trans people telling them that their licenses will be revoked as of tomorrow and that they risk arrest for driving on a suspended license.

This is pure cruelty.

I've a friend who's a college professor and they've reported something like 40% of their students are obviously using AI to complete assignments. 100% on homework, completely bombing the first in-person test.

The education system is fundamentally broken. Kids are taught to see learning as a chore that gets in the way of the fun stuff they want to do, like play games. Worse, it provides little obvious immediate reward if the kid isn't engaged. So 'skipping' this 'chore' becomes desirable.

Actually the FAQ straight up says "Hey, we'll get stuff wrong sometimes, and it's your fault for trusting us. But keep using us because we'll totally get better over time!"

The real mechanical turk test is if they're claiming the AI is doing something useful in the real world. Like something a non-tech company would actually want to buy, but it's only in the hands of a tech company.

The mainstream American Liberal politician falls on the center-right of the political spectrum. I mean, even you put "left" in quotes as though you felt that "left" was not an accurate descriptor for them.

Right wing philosophies, however, from unitary executive theory to monarchy, almost exclusively rely on having a special guy at the very top whom everyone else is supposed to listen to and obey without question. Stalinism maps very cleanly onto that framework.

Those higher up in said hierarchy being effectively unaccountable to those below. No different from, say, Uganda under Idi Amin, undeniably a right-wing authoritarian state

I would go a step farther and say that they don't understand how making things works.

not only that, the "firearms blueprint detection algorithms" would either be so narrow as to be useless - bypassed with simple tweaks to the part - or so aggressive every block with a notch is at risk of being flagged as a firearm component. Or most likely, both.

Autocrats require weak institutions to take over.
In times of violent revolution, autocrats join the side that will do the most damage to the extant state, using that side's language.

Oh god, I saw "Walz arrested clergy" and assumed it was the covid thing rearing its ugly head again. Not the more recent clergy arrests with the ICE protests.

Also arrested was a pastor in Florida, but despite signing similar orders to the ones Walz did, you'll note there's no "DeSantis arrested pastors" outrage.

Walz was probably unaware of this group until after they got arrested and rw press picked up on "Walz arrests clergy."

Critically, the only way to reasonably stop this from happening would be to give groups like this a free pass to ignore covid restrictions.

The clergy were part of a group of right wing agitators who were very deliberately and publicly violating covid precautions, and were cautioned, then warned on multiple occasions that their activities would lead to arrest.

This group was trying to get arrested for publicity.
