A night when Arsenal never really got going - and then were undone, by all things, a set piece.

Hincapie swings a cross to the back post - and Madueke rises highest to head home.

Arsenal were sloppy and off it for much of that. Couple of really poor errors at the back, one of which was almost punished had it not been for a fine save by Raya. Bit better towards the end of the half, but largely blunt in attack.
Arsenal's defenders - those starting and on the bench - have been pulled into a huddle by Gabriel Heinze. Goalkeeper David Raya part of it, too. Heinze barking out orders and encouragement.

Arsenal 1-0 Sunderland
Arsenal lead thanks to Zubimendi's goal. It was a lovely hit from outside the box and the sort of goal the hosts needed in a game like this. Sunderland have been very well organised and hard to open up.
Penalty to Arsenal, but the flag goes up for offside.
Jesus was just off.
Zubimendi lets fly from outside the box.
Goes in off the post.
Great hit.

At the Emirates for Arsenal v Sunderland
07.02.2026 13:32 — 👍 7 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Sunderland are the only beaten side at home in the Prem this season - but away form is miserable.
Two wins and six goals scored from 12 games.
Sunderland have a shockingly bad record at Arsenal and they have not won a top-flight game there since 1983.
Hence…
By the time Mikel Arteta was having his post-match meal on Tuesday night - (burger, mac ‘n’ cheese and sushi!) - he was already thinking about today’s clash with Sunderland.
Attention must quickly turn to the title race for a huge weekend.
