Trying out the @godotengine.org plugin Dialogic 2 and honestly, it does like 85% of what I need it to out of the box, so I can't complain. ๐ฆ

Basic encounter areas, scene changing, and data persistence between battles ๐๐ป๐

Also, had to try really hard to reign myself in so I have room to grow and have more "spice" for the more serious battles later on.
15.08.2025 15:55 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Version two of the main battle theme. I extended the length more and added another section, so hopefully it won't be as repetitive over a long period of time. ๐ต

And with that, we have a basic walk cycle (AND character swapping)

Ok, thanks this helps a lot. I definitely want to nail down the best way to structure this now before it becomes an awful spaghetti code mess.
16.07.2025 01:58 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0It would probably be fine to just keep, but my other worry is an organizational thing. I'm thinking if I limit my global data to just character stats/ inventory, plus maybe flags to keep track of story progress that's fine now, but I don't know how scalable that is if I have other needs later.
15.07.2025 21:31 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0My current view is probably a hybrid approach of keeping character stats/ inventory etc in a constant global, but saving area specific info like opened chests into a resource and loading as necessary. Does this approach make sense?
15.07.2025 20:12 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Doing research on persistent data in @godotengine.org and it seems that the two camps are either keeping the information in a constantly present global, or saving and loading resource files as necessary, and I would love suggestions about the merits of both in an RPG.

These are sheets of pixel art used to animate four characters walking around. 1: A skeleton dressed in purple. 2: An orange bear. 3: A red panda in a chef outfit. 4: A little yellow wizard boy.
Recently finished work on the initial drafts of walk cycles for our upcoming crew of heroes.
If all goes well, these should be our last major sprites created in Adobe Fireworks.
The end of an era indeed.

And yes, that does mean ALL the art for our first two games was done in Fireworks instead of literally anything else.
26.06.2025 23:03 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Getting our artist to finally switch from Adobe Fireworks (a software discontinued in 2013) to the version of @aseprite.org I compiled for him is a big win for productivity.

The good news is I guess there will be some kind of closed testing here soon for the mobile version of Ducks in a Row, so look out for that

The most useful thing I've discovered is it was really useful to add the camera to a a control node (which I've been naming Lakitu for reasons) to automatically move the camera to adjust to the screen size because control nodes have WAY more built in to do that automatically.
05.05.2025 20:30 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The good news is that this process has become a masterclass for @godotengine.org control nodes, so at least I'm getting a lot of good transfer skills from this.
05.05.2025 20:16 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I thought turning an already existing game I have to a mobile version would be a piece of cake, turns out there's WAY more involved in ensuring that every aspect ratio, horizontal or vertical, scale appropriately AND have functional and comfortable touch controls. Getting there slowly but surely! ๐ฆ๐ฑ
05.05.2025 20:13 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Working on something. Having to do a lot of work with control nodes so it resizes and scales properly๐ฎโ๐จAlso, using buttons from the goat @kenney.nl which work great๐ฆ

Iโve been working on the map for our next planned project. Iโm using the tile-set from FF1 as placeholders for the time being, to be replaced with my own sprites down the road. ๐งโโ๏ธ๐ป
