I'm glad that theyre easily available at least 😞 Perhaps there is hope for a fan translation, if not an official one.

Definitely by focussing more on the spirit of things and an angle of teaching kids morals from the stories, certainly not trying to stick too close to the text!

🐋-- I totally get how kid me formed the impression there was an ongoing thing going after Moby Dick throughout the entire book. Also the adaptor is NOT an Ishqueeg shipper at all. But despite the abridgement there was still a decent amount of whale facts so there's that!

Ok so 1. I did in fact read Moby Dog as a child 2. It severely truncates most of the book until the end bits, clearly spells out the whole "maybe these mystery spout sightings are moby dick", and compared to the rest to the story + the way the "irl" story unfolds -- 🐋

Like Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet, etc. You know from the start of the play where it's all going to end but it's the journey that's of interest and your heart should be in your throat as that end approaches, knowing what's to come and still hoping the impossible. You can't feel that flying blind!

I did read some of the books so maybe I read this one? I should see if the library has a copy.

Was there ever a Wishbone episode that did Moby Dick? I imagine I could have seen something like that as a child and got vague ideas from a truncated version of the story filtered through the fragmented lens of memory. 🐋

Before reading, I had the notion there was some cat-and-mouse play throughout the book with various sightings of the white whale and failed attempts on Ahab's part to catch it. Not sure why. Now as we get to the end, I won't be shocked if we never actually meet the whale, only hear tell of it. 🐋

I feel like I've missed something cause that whole chapter I was like "...but why?"

It would have to be in the isekai sense of specialness, which involves becoming exemplary and moving to the top of society. Does he become revered by others and promoted to captain himself or does the world just keep ticking? Now if he DIDN'T survive and woke up in a new body in different world...

Slice of (whaler) life. Its a main trope of the Isekai genre that the protaganist has in some way (by knowledge from their previous life, divine intervention, etc) an advantage over life that ensures they will be highly successful. Thats not happening here, in fact somewhat the opposite.

I imagine the whalers themselves are smelling pretty ripe lol

It's like buddy, we're over halfway through the book you don't have to keep explaining whales to us and telling us how great whalers are! lol

Ok finished reading and also want to double back and say the whole scenario with The Virgin and guy mocking them with the oil can was also very funny.

Also, is that really a thing with some whales sinking after death while others float? I am curious about how that works. 🐋

A seal! St George riding a seal to battle a whale which has crawled up onto a beach! What an image! 😂🐋

Currently reading ch 82. Obviously Ishmael is seeing whales everywhere but I had to set my reading down and laugh when he declared that dragons are actually whales. 🐋

Had a busy day today and even more to do tomorrow, so I'm curled up with some hot cocoa and tearing through both today and tomorrow's readings in one go! 🐋

To be fair he does also start to go on about seeing whales in the hills and stars and whatnot so he is mentally inserting whales everywhere haha
