Part 2 will be posted in a few days! We’ll be telling you our best practices to prepare for pitch sessions with an agent/editor, so stay tuned! πŸŽ‰

07.08.2025 19:41 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

5. Bring water, coffee, tea, snacks for yourself. I feel like we all forget this with so much excitement and nervous energy! Bring a water bottle so you don’t get parched, and snacks in case you get super hungry. Any other sustenance? Make sure you have it. It’s a long day!

07.08.2025 19:41 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

4. Bring a printed version of your query/pitch for yourself. It can be handwritten in your notebook or printed on paper, but have a physical copy so that when the nerves become too much, you have something to read from. Agents don’t care if you’re reading from it, too. We get it. ❀️

07.08.2025 19:41 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

3. Bring business cards! One of the main reasons you want to be at a conference is to network! Find some writing friends, critique partners, etc., and give them a business card. When you meet with agents, this is the one piece of paper we will usually accept, too!

07.08.2025 19:41 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

2. Bring an accessible version of your manuscript. We don’t mean a paper version, but rather a version on your phone, tablet, small laptop, so you can make notes and changes in the moment. DO NOT bring your printed manuscript for any agents. Just an accessible version for yourself!

07.08.2025 19:41 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

1. Bring a notebook and pens/pencils! It may seem obvious to some, but many people forget to bring a larger notebook for note taking while attending conferences. Go to workshops, learn, pitch agents, and take notes during all of it! The day will go so quickly, everyone forgets the details!

Good luck and happy writing friends! And remember, don’t hold back!

Exactly what your MC should be working towards. What are their best and worst characteristics? How does it differ from your MC’s POV of themselves? Are these characteristics things your MC needs to work towards or grow to overcome?

…now you have your character arc goals. πŸŽ‰

06.08.2025 17:30 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

If you don’t want to do an age jump, write a letter to your MC from the POV of their best friend. Best friends are honest and caring, and we should all strive to see ourselves from our best friends POV.

These different perspectives can highlight the good and the bad in your MC, and show you

06.08.2025 17:30 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

How would this child look up to your current MC and be proud of them? How might this elder version of your MC be looking back with pride, regret, or gratefulness? What would either of these versions of your MC like and dislike about your current MC in this scene?

06.08.2025 17:30 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Today, I want you to think of your MC (main character) as older or younger than they currently are. Either as a child looking forward, or maybe 10-20 years from now looking back on this moment in time. Write a letter to your current MC from the POV of their older or younger selves.

Happy Writing Prompt Wednesday! Here’s a great activity for finding the best and worst characteristics of your main character, and really working on pinpointing your MC’s character arc.

Grab a notebook or a blank document and scroll. πŸ‘‡πŸ»πŸ‘‡πŸ»πŸ‘‡πŸ»

Those answers can be combined into a two/three sentence pitch when it’s concise and focused on your main character!

Get to cutting those words friends! And don’t forget the importance of a good comp title mash up at the beginning of your elevator pitch! :)

Finding your love of writing can be so difficult in a business centered around finances instead of inspiration.
