The revelation comes as Paramount positions itself at the front of a pro-Israel backlash in the news & entertainment industry. The company has moved aggressively to align with Israel’s interests – acquiring Bari Weiss’s Free Press, installing Weiss as editor-in-chief of CBS News, firing journalists critical of Israel, and rejecting the BDS movement, which it frames as censorship rather than a human rights campaign aimed to challenge Israel’s apartheid, genocide and illegal occupation. That alignment has a history. Leaked 2015 emails, uncovered by journalist Jack Poulson, show David Ellison was recruited by Hollywood agent Adam Berkowitz (responsible for packaging shows like Seinfeld and True Detective) to coordinate with former Israeli army chief Benny Gantz on a “Counter-BDS Initiative.” The covert plan sought to enlist entertainment insiders and private intelligence firms like Black Cube to spy on and disrupt Palestine-solidarity networks. Ellison, a self-described Zionist, has vowed to modernize the studio for the “TikTok generation” – even as public sentiment in the U.S. shifts sharply the other way. A Harvard CAPS/Harris poll (July 2025) found a majority of Americans aged 18–24 now side with “Hamas over Israel,” while an August 2025 Quinnipiac poll found that half of U.S. voters – including 77% of Democrats and 51% of independents – believe Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.
