The 2025 state of the climate report: a planet on the brink We are hurtling toward climate chaos. The planet's vital signs are flashing red. The consequences of human-driven alterations of the climate are no longer

In our new report, based on the data, we suggest that we are hurtling toward climate chaos if trends continue. Thanks are due to my coauthors @michaelemann.bsky.social @petergleick.bsky.social and others. You decide if you agree by reading the paper for yourself here: doi.org/10.1093/bios...

Another planetary boundary transgressed as our oceans turn acid

Another planetary boundary has been transgressed as our oceans turn dangerously acidic - @sabinema.bsky.social of @pik-potsdam.bsky.social explains why this is so dangerous and why quickly stopping carbon emissions is the only realistic solution: fm4.orf.at/player/20250... via @fm4.orf.at

The 2025 update to the Planetary boundaries illustration.

Planetary boundaries gain global traction.

The Planetary Health Check shows 7 of 9 boundaries breached, but action is growing across governments, cities, business and finance. Co-authors Albert Norström and Tiina Häyhä highlight emerging practices.

Oh man the dirt that Putin has on Trump must be sooo spicy! I half want to really hear it after both of their demise and half never hear it, because if it's bad by Trump standard it must be absolutely sickening to any normal human being.

The Catastrophic Outcome of 3°C But is 3°C really a win? What will this amount of heating mean for peo-
ple in the United States? How alarmed, exactly, should Americans be? Well, 3°C of global heating would likely mean that for around three months of the year, the entire East Coast all the way to Maine, the Midwest to the Great Plains, and half of California would be so hot that being outdoors would put you at risk of death. Southern California, the Southwest, the Deep South, and Florida would be this deadly hot for nearly half the year.? And that's just the back- ground heat. The effects of this heat in the climate system —what are blandly known as the "impacts" of climate change should also be considered. And what the extreme weather already emerging across the globe, as well as the latest research, suggests is something quite frightening: the way our climate system is responding even to low levels of warming indicates that a 3°C world might look very much like the 4°C or s°C world it had seemed like we had avoided. This is not to say that scientists have failed to predict what is happening in some way-their projections of how much the planet will warm at rising levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere have been entirely

Are you helping your kids with their homework? Teaching them how to save for retirement? Ok.

But are you preparing them for this👇, the result of our current emissions trajectory?

I have zero understanding that I got blocked for this. Kirk has literally made it his entire thing to rile up people against already marginalized groups and put their lives in grave danger. I don't think any murder should be celebrated, but to frame Kirk as an innocent victim is just as amoral.

No mocking or celebrating, but plainly it's a case of fuck around and find out. If someone consistently dehumanizes whole social groups and instigates violence towards them with his words, it should not surprise that the violence finds him eventually.

And all because European politicians are unwilling to enact actually crippling sanctions on the russian mafia regime, because they still hope to make some deals with them in the future. Or move away from the fossil fuel addiction that bankrolls the russian war-machine.

I think most people think this is not much; judging from the pictures. Unless you realize that sweetwater is only ~3% of the global water and most of this is/was in glaciers or not available to us. It is really stupid that we let this happen, despite having all the education and research.
