I think I may have been partly influenced by a couple of movies. BIG FISH tells the stories of a man that cannot be true but maybe are. And with WEIRD, Weird Al did to movies what he’s always done to music.

In the end, I think I came up with something unique.

I wanted to be honest. I am, in fact, extraordinarily honest, though not all the stories are true. Not even all the photos are true — though every one of them was absolutely shot by me and wasn’t altered in any substantive way.

Not other memoirs. I haven’t read enough.

It started with an off-hand comment: I should edit an anthology of stories about me.
