Tonight we finally got to Yule in The One Ring! My elf was wounded on each of the expeditions... And so the Company's Song of Victory is named The Doom of Belegond. Maybe his newly keen-bladed spear will save him next year?

Still all the same characters, or did some get swallowed in the fog? ;)

Maybe not by default, but you can definitely lean in to coziness. ๐Ÿ™‚

I really like Tales From the Loop, for fun playing kids in 1980s alt-history Sweden. Cosplaying chunky sweaters optional.

It's #selfpromosaturday and so here's butcher's at my copper and silver titles on @drivethrurpg.com Fancy some #DnD, Vaesen, Tales From the Loop, Savage Worlds or Call of Cthulhu for a one shot, convention game, or something to fill an evening or two?

As Worms Presume The Dungeonator published a post on Ko-fi

My cool stuff!
I'm closing in on the end of a playthrough for my solo ttrpg, The Insensate Ones. Julian is a disaffected PhD grad who returns home to find... nothing has changed? Oh, except for a weird illness risen from the deep sea. That's new.

I organise hard to get more games, sadly other people prioritise things like real life -- which seems suboptimal -- so I don't get as much as I'd like. Folk not getting to their games is a matter of priorities in most cases.

Having to pitch too early for conventions deffo makes me lose interest.

I think your banner message wants to be foremost, that you're running demo games, and then that it doesn't cost anything and an idea of how long it takes.

Secondarily you can be punchy on the cool stuff.

If you know anyone who does some graphic design it might benefit from being punched up a bit

12.11.2025 10:40 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I'm no marketing expert, but I'd suggest being more direct. I know what "Choose Your Own Adventure" is, but for new and/or younger folk, what even is that?

As opposed to:
Demo Games
Free to play in one hour or less!

I've not thought it through but the headline should be what exactly the thing is.

Is there a service for scenario creators where someone does all the fiddly bits you don't want to do at the end?

Writing scenarios for other people to run is like a reverse 80/20 where the bulk of it takes very little time, but that last bit is taking four times as long (and counting) ๐Ÿ˜‚

A very critical and unkind take on yourself, allow others to confirm your worth ๐Ÿ˜

I'd rather like you to come on our AP channel and run one of your excellent games. We have done some Between and love it. Come bathe in the joy of sharing your creation with appreciative gamers. ๐ŸŽ‰

No doubt some folk will get the wrong idea, so to he clear - it's everyone's job to make a #ttrpg fun. You're Best Men (Best Persons?) and should all be supporting each other to have a good time. Come with a positive attitude and know you have a responsibility for making the collaborative hobby fun.

Part of being a GM is like giving a Best Man's speech. You've responsibility for telling part of a tale, but it on the audience (players) to be filled with bonhomie and willing you to succeed and contributing with appropriate responses and good will. Games are more collaborative, but support your GM

The most effective thing I find, although it doesn't always work is listening to podcasts, or at least having them on. Lying in the dark with eyes closed and having something to engage your brain other than your own thoughts can help switch off. It does mean you miss half the show though ๐Ÿ˜

I liked the new adaptation of Frankenstein, but then I do typically love a bit of Guillermo del Toro. Such a shame we didn't get a Mountains of Madness. It looks great, good performances, very gothic and extravagant, brimming with mood. Very characterful too.

Sharing again for the Monday crowd. Had a really fun game of Vileborn, which sits firmly in the "trindie" space of having lots of room for narrative and other indie game things, with meaningful trad mechanics which add flavour and make sense, without being onerous. Give it a watch!

Excessive length (ooh matron), but we do two hours or less

Too much fannying around and not getting on with the game

Low system engagement

Players who don't know what they want to do

People who don't take their fun seriously

In particular, his second iteration Beat to Quarters has the best naval combat, with suits for hit locations and that kind of thing. Add jokers to make things more lethal and other tricks play about with the format. The lesson is, if you use cards, don't just think values, think suits, colours, etc.

09.11.2025 11:41 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 3    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Using cards for initiative in Deadlands (and other Savage games) and is suitably thematic, plus avoids the "two people on the same initiative" issue.

Duty & Honour is again thematic in card use (soon to get a 2e when @omnihedron.co.uk stops lollygagging), with fun interplay with suits and values.
