I’ve made this observation before on other platforms but I keep being reminded of it, so here goes.

As soon as any government announces a benefit of any kind, it becomes someone’s job to make sure a whole bunch of people don’t get it.

And that’s not a cheap or cynical swipe. It’s literally true.
