"Garrowed" is how to say my Irish name. Gearóid is how it's actually spelled. Mostly photos of buildings, art, and assorted oddities from a designer with notions. ¶ Alt text always, usually with additional information. ¶ http://garrowed.co.uk

Looking down to a wooden floor. The floor has numerous thin metal strips attached to an array of angles. I presume that these are slider strips to protect the wood from damage when heavy items are moved around for the weekly markets held at this venue. At the top of the image are reflections of sunlit walls and doors. At the bottom of the image, a rectangular panel of plywood has yellow/black hazard tape applied to it in an X formation. Green Park Station, Bath, UK. Photo by Gearóid Burke.

Looking down to a floor where stained hardwood meets decking boards. At the centre of the image, a slightly-raised rectangular panel of plywood has been screwed down and two pieces of yellow/black hazard tape have been applied diagonally from corner to corner, forming an X. The floor also features a thin metal strip attached to it at a 55˚ angle and, on the left, residue from old stickers and/or tape. Green Park Station, Bath, UK. Photo by Gearóid Burke.

Two strings of bright red, decorative paper lanterns are strung across a street, presumably to celebrate the Chinese new year. The lines are anchored to the first-storey window ledge of a mid-terrace townhouse. The building is built on a slope, opens directly to a footpath and faces an iron railing. The rendered facade is a magnolia colour and the doors and window frames have been painted laurel green, and the windows (one per floor) reduce in size and complexity as they rise up the building (20 panes, 12 panes, 6 panes). Phoenix Terrace, Catherine Street, Frome, Somerset, UK. Photo by Gearóid Burke.

A dark asphalt pavement features a directional arrow sign in white thermoplastic paint. The symbol is worn and the top of the arrow seems to have been cut off at a 30˚ angle. The tips of two black shoes can be seen at the bottom of the image. Vastern Road, Reading, Berkshire, UK. Photo by Gearóid Burke.

Six short, colourful stools in a row. The seats are covered in imitation leather, each in its own flat colour. In sequence, they are yellow, red, purple, blue, red, and purple. All are bolted to a grey tiled floor, and there is a long white bench to the left, and booth-style seating on the right. The yellow stool, closest to the lens, has cracks in its covering. An image in two halves. On top, tree branches behind a semicircular sign reading "LIDO." On the bottom, a view from underneath a lampshade with a window on the left and a raw brick-and-mortar ceiling. A collage from two photos that I posted in the previous week, desaturated and inverted. Close-up view of the façade of the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana in Rome, showing repeating rows of large, evenly spaced arches carved into pale stone. The geometric pattern of arches creates strong lines and shadows, emphasizing the building’s monumental, symmetrical design.

A Georgian townhouse in a terrace on a pedestrian street. The three storey building (plus attic and basement) dates from 1770. The ground floor is painted white up to a platband, above which is exposed Bath oolitic limestone. The first floor has an unusual balcony featuring a swept canopy with trellised supports. Miles's Buildings, Bath, UK. Photo by Gearóid Burke.

Mounted on a brick wall and under an arch is wooden noticeboard. This panel is made from eight pieces of wood joined side by side at a 60˚ angle and then framed. The board has five rows of small L-shaped hooks and from the top three lines, metal numerals hang from them. The top line reads 15 and 447. 388 is on the second line. And the third line, which is below a long brass divider, has 443 and 2. Hymn numbers for a past or upcoming service or ceremony. Grundtvigs Kirke⁩, ⁨Copenhagen, ⁨Denmark⁩. A large iron support, underpinning railway tracks, has been painted a warm shade of yellow. A layer of paint in a lighter tone has been applied to cover some graffiti tags. On top of this is a more recent piece of street art in blue paint. The word "boo" in all-caps with an exclamation mark, and a simple ghost character in outline with large, long eyes and a small mouth. Finally, there is a broken letter U. Or maybe it's a smiley face. Or maybe it's a monogram for I and J. I don't know. Vastern Road, Reading, Berkshire, UK. Photo by Gearóid Burke.

A dark, blocky office building on the left. A very blue sky on the right. There's a grid over the image and there's a series of white dots, slashes and loops, like some strange symbol-based language. The plate glass windows of a modern high-rise office building (One Station Hill) reflects its neighbour (Thames Tower) and a mostly-clear noon sky. Visible inside the structure are strip lights, spherical lampshades and circular LED chandeliers (seemingly de rigueur for any office or retail space these days). Station Hill, Reading, Berkshire, UK. Photo by Gearóid Burke.

An urban landscape with a park and bare trees. A thick arched sign stands on thin poles over a footpath leading to a two-storey building on the left. The word LIDO is spelled out in semi-spherical dots (presumably semi-exposed lightbulbs, but they were not illuminated). The entrance to Thames Lido, Kings Meadow Road, Reading, Berkshire, UK.
