Europe won't come to Canada's defence because it is logistically impossible, and Canada will become the sacrificial lamb to appease Trump.

It doesn't matter the reason because he has demonstrated that he will just make up a reason and keep repeating it no matter how demonstrably false it is, in order to justify his criminal actions.

Perhaps he doesn't trust Canada to share its vital resources - critical minerals, water, oil, electricity - with USA. Perhaps he is offended that Canada would dare to put countervailing tariffs on goods coming from the USA.

Trump likes that idea and comes up with some ridiculous national security reason that Canada is no longer a reliable neighbour and should be annexed - by force if necessary.

My worry:
Putin, with Trump's blessing, normalizes the idea that it's now okay to expand your borders by absorbing all or parts of your neighbouring countries.

Trump supporting Russia's invasion of Ukraine is a precursor to Russia supporting Trump's invasion of Canada. We are toast.
