Just 73,000 jobs added in July, while May and June were revised down. It's the weakest 3-month period of job growth since COVID. If you throw out 2020, it's the weakest 3-month period since 2010 and the aftermath of the Great Recession.

Found a puzzling figure in the June jobs report. While 147,000 jobs were added - half of those were government jobs. Private sector jobs grew by 74k last month. Federal jobs were down 7k, but state and local jobs were up 80k in June.

The Senate seems to be at the point where anything is possible over the next few days on a giant GOP tax and budget bill. Success, failure, mini rebellion, delay, a furious rewrite of key provisions - all options remain available for Republicans.

Back in 2021, it was the Democrats who didn't like the Senate Parliamentarian, after she ruled against them on various immigration plans and refused to allow a minimum wage hike in a reconciliation bill

Brutal setbacks today for Senate Republicans on their Medicaid plans as the Parliamentarian has found many of the GOP savings plans run afoul of the Byrd Rule, and must be stripped from the Big Beautiful Bill. Makes it even more difficult to lash this bill together and get it done by next week.
